On what basis is USA > England? Last World Cup aside they,ve lost close games or penalty shoot outs to top sides, I don't recall USA going deep or putting in close games vs anyone decent

lolEngland. Get beaten by the US in the most important tournament? Have worse results in meaningless friendlies against the top countries? Never do anything in any big tournament? Ignore it all! Claim dominance!

The US isn't better than England and LK has definitely over-rated the US.

The US is a tough team for a lot of nations and can get results against good nations. But, they won't be a favorite to beat the better nations. Everything is draw dependent for the WC, so, like DB said, the US could go out in the group stage or the US could make a run. They have the talent to make a QF run again, but would then possibly get curb stomped by a nation with a potent attack (seriously, Colombia would be a nightmare for the US defense)

If only there was a collection of teams, or group, where they all played common opponents to see who would advance in a competition:

Spoiler:
USA 1-2-0 5 +1 4
England 1-2-0 5 +1 2
Slovenia
Algeria

oh wait

And this years team is better than 2010. Significantly.

and BAIDS is just trying to retroactively justify his English flag tattoo.

People do stupid things when they're drunk, man. Don't let it stop you from participating in the traditional English orgy of self-loathing.

Against teams like Spain or Brazil or Italy the USA can park the bus and fight, but the technical difference is serious. The US has perhaps a handful of players that would even play on the national sides in Spain or Brazil (I can't think of one, though). Against Germany I don't see USA as having a hope because parking the bus won't help so much because of how Germany plays.
I think you don't know what you're talking about. You are arguing as though this was the US team 20 years ago; taking ~80% of points from a team is a massive, massive advantage.

In my opinion, US would take >50% points from England. Because they are better.

But I guess all this will be decided come World Cup time, because I will load up on the USA, and let the chips fall where they may.

agree that 7-8 is a little much since team usa aren't worthless

would be more like 6 wins & 4 draws.

you want to talk fads, usa soccerball is the faddiest thing going at the moment. doubt more than 50% of the poasters itt will keep following if the most likely outcome (usa fail to qualify out of their group) comes to pass.

by the way im obv not referring to yourself, mw, f60, mmbt and many more who clearly love soccerball and have a great deal of knowledge about the sport, and who contribute extensively to the soccer threads. i'm talking about noze types who will quickly fall away once the gloss wears off.

hurt that you would belittle my compatriot Noze's rigorous insight and record of excellent soccerball posting.

US comes in last place in its WC group in 2006 and the next two world cups the US purchases more tickets than any other country besides the hosts. Yeah, soccer in the US is probably just a fad...
