U.S. Soccer set to hire Matt Crocker as sporting director

Quote:
Southampton director of football operations Matt Crocker is set to be named the U.S. Soccer Federation’s sporting director, multiple sources familiar with the hiring process told The Athletic on Sunday.
Quote:
Crocker spent three seasons at Southampton overseeing the men’s, women’s and youth programs at the club. Prior to his appointment there, the 48-year-old spent seven years at England’s Football Association, overseeing the U-15, U-17 and U-20 English national teams on both the men’s and women’s side, including England’s men’s wins at the U-17 and U-20 World Cups in 2017 and their European Championship at the U-19 level the same year.

hopefully he nails the coach, but Sporting director for a NT doesn't seem like a job that does very much

Pretty predictable uninspiring hire, but at this point I'm just glad the bald MLS stan is gone and we didn't completely **** this up. Hopefully Marsch knows where our most talented players are playing their football and how to get them all in the squad. Basic ****

We got Balogun. He was the missing piece.

Not even a mediocre coach can stop the US from cupping it

the us u20team should at least make the semi's in this. but then it's brazil most likely which may be tougher.

also i'm not sure how many squads are getting bolstered now that the epl is ending.. i know players like Carney Chukwumeka that played in the last three chelsea games is joining the england squad for today.

the games are free on fifa+ if you can vpn to outside the US.

yeah sunday afternoon 5pm est.. it should be on fox or fox sports on tv at this point. us play the winner of the gambia/uruguay which is currently on going 0-0. 2nd half starting shortly, both teams down to 10 men.

yeah, i thought carney's play was poor.. might be flying in last minute, but i expected him to be the best player on the pitch, and he seemed to not be that much of a factor.. england handball was unlucky. i personally think it was less of a handball offense than the sevilla one in the europa league final that wasn't given.. Nigeria just out muscled Argentina. their goalie had both assists i think, or at least the hockey assist.

hmmm i thought the ENG handball was closer to a handball than the SEV non-callled one. the ENG defender gets into arms slightly behind/at your side as the action begins but then breaks this posture a bit when the ball is shot and then, for me, there was a bit of hand to ball to the sequence

idk.. to me it looked like the england player was turning pulling his arm towards his body, where the sevilla player is clearly extending his arm going away from his body. as the ball comes in the sevilla player's arm is moving away form his body making it bigger. either way, there is never consistency with any of these calls.. i dont know the solution, but it's silly how much it changes from game to game.

either way.. Uruguay win today so they are the opponent for sunday for the US. they will be missing at least one of their starting forwards due to a straight red today.

you know what i got confused. i was thinking of the ROM foul that was called a PK and then not called a PK when the ref looked at the vid

agree they can be such big calls in football (handball vs non-handball as potential PKs) but i don't see a solution to better things
