when does the "Pete Carroll for God" talk start?

binked a natty at USC, binked a Super Bowl....

I'm not sayin', but when?

Obv nobody knew Sherman would be the best. But they likely knew he'd return a lot of value relative to where he was picked. There's a ton of other players that make better examples of the Hawks killing it with talent evaluation/picking up undervalued resources (the Moneyballing)/finding the right pieces to fit their system. Calling it just getting lucky on draft picks (and UDFA's?) seems like it has to be done with one's head halfway on its way into the sand.

I also think it's implausible it's all in the draft selections themselves. Training and game plan have got to play a role when the results are so many standard deviations from the norm.
I don't disagree with you. Carroll is great at coaching people up, and his system is working great. There's still a case for good drafting, however, as Kris Durham, Winston Guy, and Chris Harper have all gone on to be contributers, even starters on other teams.

Obv it's somewhat different, but look at the NFL teams Pete had at USC (and note that his assistants haven't set the world on fire, except for Lane, but that wasn't in a good way). He's clearly got some pretty elite talent evaluation chops.

The number of Seahawks draft selections under Schneider (who started with the 2010 draft) who are out of the NFL at this point? (Not on IR or a practice squad)

Spoiler:
Five. Total. Across 4 drafts. Lotta teams pilfering Seahawks castoffs and practice squad players.

You guys are all basically making the same argument - that the results have been awesome, so obviously the process must be awesome. but plenty of other GM's have had sick results over a few years, only to return to being an average drafter. Polian was sick until he wasn't. Pioli / BB were great until they weren't. Newsome was the GOAT GM until he decided to pay Flacco $20m a year.

wait 4 more years, then I'll buy that Schneider has figured out something nobody else in the NFL ever has. Until then, 'variance' is easily the most likely explanation.

Yeah maybe it's just variance/luck, but I think it's safe to say that they have coached whatever draft picks up a ton to get to where they are now. It would be a disservice not to credit their coaching staff just as much for guys like Sherman.. oh and especially KAM.

So maybe it's less drafting well and more having such a great system that you can go after guys other teams don't covet.

I like the Jags. They have some hilarious twitter folks and are like Seattle's baby brother. Just so long as they know their place and keep losing to us, I'm cool with them.

The only team I hate is the Steelers, because I have a soul.

Let's be real though GM Gene was never drafting Wilson. "Character issues with transferring" and he went to a college people heard of.

Anyone think the pass interference call was a bit on the light side when it was 3&4 8-0? Seems like if Denver would have turned to face the ball at all there is almost no way the ref is calling that pass interference.

Which is kinda like saying "If I hadn't killed that guy, I wouldn't have been charged with murder". You can't faceguard in the NFL.

That call was obvious.

The non-PI call on Thomas where he was going for the ball and ran into the WR was closer, but I think that should be a non-call.

Can't really think of many ref errors at all.

Although on Pete's challenge- did he **** up by challenging the first down and not the spot- or is that the only thing you can challenge. Buck (because he never does) didn't explain ****- but it seemed like the refs admitted they (badly) mispotted the ball, but that it was still short.
