I'm thinking:
1. Log my BAC (blood alcohol content) after very drink.
2. Log how much alcohol consumed (to water/ice ratio)
3. How I feel
4. How others around me perceive me (control)
5. Maybe do the "walk a straight line test" (?)

(note: I have to wait 5 mins after each drink to conduct the test)

What else? Might as well have fun with this and get something productive out of it.

this one in particular can vary by a lot relative to your BAC, so you'd need multiple tests - some with food, some without food, some after not drinking for a while, etc.

there are times when 2 beers can make me feel drunk and other times when 7 won't

Measure reaction-time like Dr. Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap, ldo. Chess-clock should do it.

Also, try dictating a legal letter after the equivalent of 3 martinis to feel like an old-school NY lawyer every afternoon.

Thanks, appreciate the kind words.

Didn't hear a pop or click or anything when it happened, so initially thought the ACL was clear (injury was 16 days ago.) Had been kind of anticipating it for about a week, though. Doctor had said he was worried about the ACL, tone & wording made me (correctly, in hindsight) feel like he thought it was a tear. Just had the painful wait for MRI Monday then results today. Definitely some element of relief that the process is now in motion mixed in with the frustration.

Damn, that sucks. Most useful thing I got post-surgery was a machine that could refrigerate water close to freezing and circulate it through a wrap around the knee. Helped with reducing pain a bunch. Do you know if they will be using the patella or hamstring tendon for the graft?

Patellar tendon. Thanks, will look into something like that if they don't mention it. My current strategy of wrapping frozen vegetables up with an old Ace bandage could use improvement.

injury prob just a subconscious way of showing solidarity with Nerlens

Ugh. Been there myself in '06. Not sure of your age, but the rehab at 23 changed my life. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, but I wouldn't trade the life learning experience. It will be a test of your will and you'll get beaten down -- physically, emotionally -- but do it right and you come out with some resiliency miles that pay you back later.

A bunch of my friends tore theirs around age 30, most, if not all, by playing soccer. I'm thinking of getting back into baseball next year at age 35 so this prospect scares me a bit.

Good luck on your recovery.

Quick PSA for those who stream Netflix and tend to look at movie reviews to help with selection: the Flixster app for iphone (and presumably droid) just added the ability to add to your Netflix queue, and keeps a catalog of all movies available for Netflix streaming. Flixster incorporates Rotten Tomatoes, which is primarily why I use it.

You can sort Netflix titles by genre, RT rating, date of release, or any/all of these things and then simply add to your queue directly from the app. This seems really sweet and will save me a ton of time not having to toggle back and forth from Netflix to my phone or laptop, and should also help in finding more obscure quality titles that I might otherwise miss.

23. Thanks for sharing your experience, really not too sure what to expect from the rehab part other than "it'll be tough" and the initial feeling of being raring to get at it. Then, after it's done, the three-month waiting period where I'm medically cleared but refuse to go back to work and my brothers talk to the media a bunch.

Soccer does seem pretty unique this way. I mean, there's always some risk of injury, but there's just something about what it does to the knee I think. Honestly kinda scary as someone who is planning/hoping to play soccer until I'm 50 or so. Both my parents hurt their knees playing soccer at 35-40 too.

ACL injuries in soccer are pretty damn common... way more likely to happen to a girl though.

Deleted Flixster a while ago. Definitely reason to re-install. Thanks for the headsup.
