No. Which enhances my credibility, since I haven't been sucked into the cult that so many at Penn State have been, and with disastrous consequences.

It's time for that to end and for a healthy sense of perspective to be restored. This would be a step toward that. Others are calling for entire seasons to be forfeited or the program eliminated altogether. I think that may be extreme until we have more time to sort through all this, but the fact that so much is still up in the air and it's so raw is exactly why they shouldn't be playing ****ing football in TWO DAYS.

as long as you guys would agree that all of the college kids who were on the street supporting paterno should have their names and pictures posted on a website for all their friends, family, professors and future employers to see, then fine. cancel the games.

otherwise, do what an earlier poster suggested and donate all proceeds from the game to charity (all money, not just profits).

At the end of the day, it's just football. Amateur football, at that.
There are children starving in [insert whatever country/continent that mothers of today use], right now, while we exchange nonsense about football.

You want them to cancel the season to teach the kids the lesson that football is less important than so many things? That since the leadership of the university from the top down into the football program were enabling a serial pedophile, that the football team needs to pause and reflect and not play football? That the community needs to understand that the failure of leadership at the university dictates they not rally around it for something like a trivial football game?

Do I have it right? Am I saying it fairly?

I think it is hogwash, but I just want to know if I'm construing you correctly.

Any chance the game gets cancelled Saturday? Don't see it ending well. Especially if Penn St. starts getting blown out or something. I.E. more rioting.

So, yes. When he pauses, with this appearance that he is preoccupied with a thought outside of the topic of conversation, it gives me a creepy feeling about what else he might be thinking about.
haha, wow - u just mad because the hot black British chick is no longer doing the reporting for CNN

Yeah that's pretty much it. There needs to be a period of grieving here. Playing a football game in two days does not promote that. That says "business as usual".

If Ohio State was found to be smuggling food away from hungry kids in Africa, I would expect the rest of their season to be canceled, too.

If this were a non-revenue sport, the rest of the season is SNAP-cancelled by the university (if other teams will even agree to play them), and no one is batting an eye about it. No one would be posting about it being unfair to the softball players.

If its any consolation all of the money for the next three games plus some will be going to victims families in civil suits.

or detracts from it, since you seem to have no problem with collectively punishing an entire team of student athletes, perhaps because of personal bias against college athletes.

Yes, they would be. There's no reason to punish the kids on that team or any team at Penn St. If you need to fire every single coach on the entire staff and let the captains run the team on Saturday, fine. But there isn't any reason they shouldn't be allowed to play.

Everyone is assuming this. And they should be. But, this is hardly certain. There are many players on the team who have been with the program for 4-5 years.

Are the seniors adults? If they are, they will get over it.

Sometimes real life is more important than a football game.

This. I think they should shut it all down so the investigation can really begin.

Respectfully disagree with bold.

What about firing the entire coaching staff and playing the game in an empty stadium? (like in European soccer after riots, which we have had here) That would maintain some fairness to Nebraska and the rest of the Big Ten from a competitive standpoint (however insignificant that is in the scope of things). Would you object to that?

You can't let a bunch of college kids run a football team. That would be absurd and probably dangerous for the players.

But I will say that I am sickened, absolutely sickened, that some of those people whose lives were fundamentally inspired and galvanized by Joe Paterno have not stepped forward to stand up for him, have stood back and allowed him to be painted as an inhuman monster who was only interested in his legacy, even at the cost of the most heinous crimes against children imaginable.

Shame on them.
honestly, **** off Posnanski.

meh, life isn't fair. just ask Sandusky's victims.

i think it's about punishing the school and/or just stopping everything and getting to the bottom of this whole thing now. there's been serious failure from the very top on this, and probably a whole lot more to come. i mean how are we going to feel a year from now if we learn that more members of the staff/program knew about this stuff, and did nothing. but we let them coach, and the games go on, bc obv football is the most important thing here.

the entire program failed, so just stopping everything now is a reasonable argument to make, i think. not sure if i agree with it or not, but it's a case that could probably be made successfully. i don't think it'll happen, but if it did, it probably won't be the worst thing to happen in the lives of anyone involved. but if it is, gg. #firstworldproblems
