I just watched the replay on mlb.tv

After the third pitch, a fan in the stands (or a voice from the dugout?) can be heard screaming, "Papelbon! First base is open, nail him! Put one in his ear!"

Next pitch, high for ball three.

Next pitch plunks him, even though it didn't miss the plate by much, if at all. Hairston was WAY out over the plate.

That mysterious voice could be heard talking smack in the moments immediately following the plunk.

Okay, here's my stupid knuckleball theory. Since the knuckleball is such a mesmorizing pitch, Wakefield's mates, while in the field watching that ball dance all over the place, can't get a [censored] ing hit when it's their turn.

How else do you explain that they never score any runs for him?
Tek > Dougie.

(No, I don't know how to explain the rest of the runs he's not getting)

Ellsbury up for... Piniero? Got a figure they're trying to move Coco if they aren't going to DL him here.

BB, BB, RBI Single, I like how this game is going so far. Beckett looked great also.

Like I've stated before, I was never impressed with this guy and have no idea why theo would pay so much to get him.

I guess theo just has bad luck when it comes to SS.

Under .500 for the month of June, hope that's not a trend.

SS is depressing. A-Gon brings such a good glove too

Cabrera .339-5-47
Renteria .327-10-38
A-Gonzalez .258-13-38
Lugo .190-4-34

Best record in the bigs. 10 game lead in the East.

I know it would make you all tingly inside to see them bomb, but maybe you should wish for something else.

Because your only purpose with that post was to be sarcastic and trolling. So I will provide facts that show that they are playing better than anybody else over the course of the year.

I think it was a very very dumb play on his part. It was a one run game, almost any single he will score on, and if he got caught they were out of the inning. But, maybe he was 'trying too hard' to make something happen since he has been slumping real bad and wants to contribute in someway? Of course the 'no slide' doesn't really show 'trying to make something happen'. (Maybe he was upset that Francona had him pinch run in a game where they were playing a bad team with a bad pitcher? But I doubt that.)

Unless he is hurt in someway, I don't see him continuing to play this poor.I don't see any options to trade him either, because BOS will have to pay a lot of the salary and won't get very much in return.BOS has Cora (who isn't that great) as a back up. Can Pedroia play SS? Could we get Loretta from Houston and Cora backs them up? There aren't tons of options for SS right now. Obviously, if I thought Lugo would continue to play this poor, I would have Cora play SS if I was Francona.

it's possible that this was him saying, "F U francona for sitting me in favor of alex cora after i've had two days off and we're playing against a [censored] team with a terrible SP."

if that's the case i hope he dies in a grease fire obv

tejeda's got a noticeable l/r split so playing cora against him makes sense

As much as I don't like Lugo, he has to play, the Sox have too much invested in him for too many years. Francona is very good at handling these type of situations and in his post game he said that the guy was probably just trying too hard. I see Francona calling him in and telling him the job is his and to just forget the first half and relax.

Will it work, have no idea, but a 10 game lead helps a lot to be patient.

lol. ok, so to recap our conversation:

me: (sarcastically) this team looks pretty good right now

you: Best record in the bigs. 10 game lead in the East

me: what does that have to do with how they're playing right now?

you: they are playing better than anybody else over the course of the year.

thanks, now I get it!
