how many on McDavid's team goes other than him and Drai?

Sounds like McOverrated doesn’t make his teammates better.

Grant Fuhr ain’t walking through that door.

We’d rank 1. McDavid 2. MacKinnon, is he the consensus second best player…I want Mac over Kuch/Makar/Drai….thoughts?

idk if it were this thread or not, but i thought general consensus here was that makar>mackinnon

i think barkov winning b2b definitely puts him into one of the best players conversation despite not putting up the offensive stats to warrant that consideration

At least we are spared Pierre Lebrun's neverending columns of how he wishes hockey was over and he could go to his cottage.

Forget all the other names, by now I'd be happy if Tommy Salo walked through the door.

I've said it in other places, but the Oilers window was on perfect track - make the finals last year and put up a good fight. This was the year to win. Next year, Drai contract kicks in, all the 30+ year olds are a year older, it was now or never. The window is closed now and they won't be back.

McDavid's response to will he resign wasn't exactly encouraging yesterday either. You can say "oh he's keeping leverage" or whatever - he doesn't need any leverage. He can write "8 years, all in signing bonus, for the maximum cap percentage" and the Oilers will sign it happily. I no longer think it's inconceivable he leaves, and if he doesn't re-sign before the start of the season, the Oilers should have some serious discussions about a trade. They cannot let an asset of that value walk out the door for nothing, no matter what.

You know I think your dead on that this had to be the year I was surprised they never got bounced in the first round

Lets say they resign Mcdavid it will be for 14.5 mill minimum as that is what Leon got. They want to sign Bouchard and 10 mill is pretty much the minimum . So you got Mcdavid, Leon, Bouchard and Nurse at 50 mill a year . You have no starting goalie and a team that is old and slow

Personally I would have preferred matching the Blues offers to Holloway and Broberg over signing Bouchard .

You also have a GM that has had limited success in the cap area

Mcdavid wants to win and at some point he may already know its not going to happen with Edmonton .

Core 4. Run it back.

Need to offload nurse. That stings.

If we’re saying that cups don’t make you great, winning cups, especially on a great team, especially when you didn’t have great offensive numbers, shouldn’t then bump you onto the list. Barkov is a great player but I wouldn’t put him in the top 5, and his SCF performance wouldn’t change that at all.

You win the understatement of the year prize. Hearing his first order of business is to give a 27 year old power forward who's never topped 40 points in a season an 8 year contract is perfectly on brand for this Oiler leadership group of morons.

Toews got much more than I ever thought. If he can stick in the lineup even just as a 4th line C and they make the playoffs he's getting over 5 million bucks. Would've assumed any team taking a chance on him would get some chance at a bargain.

New sponsor/advertiser for Leafs and Raptors for the new season. Oops. I guess I should not have bashed them last year. I don't like their ads, as they seem sketchy, but I guess they are serious about the Ontario market. This is kind of good news for me, as that is my other area of expertise: online slots. LOL.

Lots are happening and fast in Leafs land with the signing of players or lack thereof.

What in the beep with Zegras to Philly?

Lol I think Ducks fans were pretty convinced Zegras was turning things around and if traded was gonna be packaged for something good. Now they dump hin for scraps
The NHL Thread Quote

wasn't zegras considered by other nhl players to be the most overrated player in the league and struggled to get minutes on one of the worst teams in the league that had every reason in the world to give him all the run they could
The NHL Thread Quote

I'm not sure the most overrated part had much to do with what he did on the ice. He was on the cover of a video game because he scored a cool goal once, of course he's gonna be seen as overrated.

Sure seems like the Ducks bungled a guy with a lot of talent in any case. Not that going to Philly gives you much hope for a turnaround.

sounds fair, didn't know he had a video game cover - in which case yes he's obviously getting that vote

I hate HHOF talk but I really wonder what changed from last year that they finally put Iginla in. I guess he had to wait for the immortal Jeremy Roenick first. Good for him.
