Well it all started in 1983 when I was a city boy born and raised in south Detroit (the year Stevie Y joined the Wangz obv). My dad had me pushing around a chair and started playing organized hockey in 1990 when I was 7 (around the last time the Wangz missed the playoffs imo). Been a huge Wangz fan ever since. Lived 30 min from the Joe all my life so obv have a pretty extensive live Wangz experience. So watching the Wagz the last 20 years and them being the best franchise in the league for that entire period has been great. Lot's of people mad during this time especially actionjackson. Played up through high school in the metro west with the likes of Andy Greene and David Moss. Pretty good talent. Went to college no longer played competitively and Wangz still getting people mad during this time. Hoisting cups. It's been a great run is all I can say. Stevie's rip in double OT in '96 over Casey's shoulders in burned into my brain forever. But yeah after 20 consecutive years of following the Wangz and them never missing the playoffs during that time I might take the regular season for granted a little bit. Not saying that I don't follow it but the playoffs are a whole different beast in the NHL. Seeding doesn't matter that much compared to other sports playoffs. Just gonna be another year the Wangz try to put together another cup run and I am pretty excited about it.

Football/Baseball town first in reality. And when you are good for so long to the casual fan the luster wears off. When you are expected to make deep runs in the playoffs to the very casual hockey fan when in reality are you going to start to pay attention? The conference finals and the stanley cup finals. Lots of teams that have swings of not making the playoffs or haven't been in the playoffs for long extended periods of time are not gonna see this casual fan apathy yet.

I dunno, even if my team constantly went to the Conference Finals/Cup Finals, I'd still be up for going to a Round 1 or Round 2 playoff game. Especially if it wasn't a lock my team would make it further this year. But yeah, lots of casual fans I guess.

Chicago just won the cup last year, but when game 3 of Round 1 happens in Chicago, I bet that place is gonna be packed and rocking.

Nope. Wings tickets back in the late 90's, early to mid 2000's were extremely hard to come by. Season ticket wait list was like 2 years long. This was all relative to the auto industry doing really well and an inflated middle class with disposable income.

I thought the Joe was rocking last night. The 5 on 3 kill got the crowd really into it, the "Todd Bertuzzi" chant was unlike anything I've heard at a game there, almost felt like I watching a soccer match with the crowd chanting.

Okay you'd know better than me, but when the Wings/Canucks had their series a while back (the lol Cloutier one) I remember being surprised at all the empty seats in Games 1 and 2.

It's almost like a good sized portion of the fanbase was so used to being in the WCF and SCF that they just kind of tuned out until WCF, this seemed to happen more after the Dave Lewis disaster with the two really early playoff exits.
