went on to say they're happy playing every other day and it really seems he has thoroughly pounded it into the team's head that fitness, heart, and consistency (along with an all star goalie) wins hockey games...and he's being proven right.

so amazing that mcdonagh chased down kovalchuk from like 3-4 strides behind him in less than 60 feet. if that's not fitness and heart, i don't know what is.
yeah that's fitness and heart, except that kovalchuk has been playing on no legs for the entire playoffs. it'd be like me chasing down a polio victim.

and yeah the rangers played a wonderful first and second periods, letting themselves get hemmed in their own zone, giving up a bunch of chances, icing the puck constantly, the crowd went totally silent except for hitting around a bunch of stupid balloons, half of them wondering when sean avery would hit the ice. rangers played a great 3rd but if they play like the 1st and 2nd they are in very serious trouble in this series.

if they played so poorly, why was the score 0-0 after 2?

Why no rant from Triumph for when Del Zotto closed his hand on the puck, leading to the Rangers second goal? I am disappointed

how many shots came from all that time in the rangers' zone?

what were the overall quality of those chances? maybe a few were good but in general they kept the puck relatively easy for henrik to stop. sure lundqvist had to make a few solid saves but many many others were routine and came from great d turning what could have been a great opportunity into a standard save.

so mcdonagh chased down a weary kovalchuk...how do you explain him also getting to parise? either way you cut it, and even if an nhl player is tired or old, being a full 3-4 strides behind him and catching up to disrupt a would be quality scoring opportunity is exceptional defense and speed.

the biggest mistakes rangers made where:
- a few poor break outs that let the devils keep the puck in the zone,
- a few poor neutral zone plays.

and every time, everybody got back on d and limited the devil's scoring chances. even though the 1st and 2nd period weren't among the rangers' best, they still did what they had to do to keep the score at 0. that was impressive.

here's the problem - while your team was getting pounded along the boards and in their own zone, they weren't getting any chances at all at the offensive end of the rink. so it doesn't matter what kind of chances they were giving up - and i'll agree they weren't giving up that many phenomenal chances - they weren't getting any of their own.

parise said that girardi disrupted his stride just enough that he knew that mcdonagh would get back there. the great play mcdonagh made was to not take a penalty. it was an excellent play.

it was impressive watching the rangers get pounded shift after shift? prepare to be impressed by the rest of the series i guess. the rangers did a decent job limiting chances - there weren't many wide open looks.

hand pass? no, that's not a hand pass. it's delay of game for closing his hand on the puck. you know, the same penalty that the ref called on volchenkov in the first period even though that's never called on corner scrums, but somehow they just plum forgot about it by the third.
