I can't believe how good the Bernier-Carter-Gionta line has been.

I just get the impression you never played hockey and therefore missed out on your hockey school lessons when you were 4 years old

but ya that's how hockey is played
Stop listening to the Canadian hockey media.

This LA team has to be the best worst regular season team ever, right?

def some "obscure record first" gunna be made this postseason in some way:

- no team ranked 6 or 8 i dont think has ever won the cup (definitely not 8, not sure about 6)
- no team that won the cup had to play 2 7 game series in the first two rounds.
- no rookie has scored more than 4 goals before playing in a regular season game (kreider needs 1 more goal to break this record. kid is looking like a brilliant pickup for the rangers)

so the only way none of those are broken is if coyotes win and it's pretty clear they ain't gonna win.

the degree to which the loss is lundqvist's fault is pretty small. look at what they had to do to get pucks past him (2/3 were deflections in midair with large trajectory changes in high traffic and the other was a sick sick sniper shot from kovalchuk). we simply can't let people get sticks on pucks coming at the net, which means we have to *really* up the defensive pressure on red shirts in front of the net.

i think coppernblue or somebody tried to recreate some 80's oilers possession stats and concluded that they didn't out-corswick everyone, but instead relied on their dominant s%.

this is true. but we've seen that it's not really possible to do this now.

Last 3 teams to begin the playoffs 11-1 or better didn't win the cup.

Geddy,

I certainly will give you credit for predicting the Rangers to be good. Early in the year I didn't see it at all. They played the Pens and in standard form for the time won despite getting dominated. You didn't need fancy stats, it was very obvious from watching the damn game. I had also seen parts of a couple of their other early games and, as I'm wont to do, looked at their stats and they were a mess going by the eye test or stats. As was noted, I predicted they'd struggle to make the playoffs.

They obviously turned it around from there and, while they certainly have run hot, it's pretty clear that you were far more accurate than I was.

Around December both NYR and the Wild were at or near the top of the standings in the NHL and near the bottom of the Fenwick standings. The Rangers did something to improve their possession. Minnesota did not.

The Rangers' corsi struggles at the beginning of the year can be partially attributed to the fact that they spent the first 13 games or whatever on the road (including europe)
