Not sure which of these is more unbelievable. Probably the islanders spending money on a ufa. Getting Streit back will be nice though.

Devils need to finish their implosion and start to rebuild.
Buy out Kovalchuk and let him go to the KHL
Brodeure is toast if you don't have a defense in front of him.

Flyers need a play off goalie. Nabokov? prob not. And a healthier team come play off time.
Islanders are 2 good drafts away from making the play offs if they don't go Broke before that. Just saying cause attendance has been crap and they are losing money also. Tons of money.

Pens will be strong again. Just wondering how Malkin is going to play after his injury and weather or not Crosby and his head are going to be okay.

My post about the Thrashers sale and the BIG Announcement was off by a week.
Thrashers owner reported to Fox Sports that the deal was in the hands of the lawyers and 80% finished a couple of days ago.
True North Sports and Entertainment is paying 170 mil for the team .
110 to go to the current ownership and 60 to the NHL (Relocation fee).
They are expecting the announcement to be made this Tuesday.
I have also read that another group has come forward with an offer to buy the team and keep them in Atlanta but the offer is less than 110 mil.
Thrashers are said to have lost 130 mil. if they are smart they will sell the team to Thompson, cut the 20 mil loss and let them go.

Everybody making scenarios with Nabokov on a team other than the Islanders realize he's under contract to them for next season, because he refused to report this year? So if he wants to play, he has to convince the Islanders to trade him, or play for them.

glad Rafalski went out on his own terms even if he was leaving 6 million on the table... yikes

we need to dump Hudlers almost 3m/yr and get Fil to start playing like he is worth 3m/yr

Then we can fill in on D as long as Nick comes back...

I think Holland wanted a decision by June 15th before the draft so the Wings can wheel and deal if necessary...

Didn't they have one of the best records in the league after the 2nd half/firing their coach? And that's with one of their best players injured. Buy-out Kovy are you on crack?

I'm such a sucker for these kinds of stories. Can't imagine what that must be like for the parents to deal with knowing their three year old has months to live.

I just read that thread. So ****ing depressing. Feel awful for the guy.

You know what else is depressing? I gave this another spin in the ancient VHS player this weekend and I noticed the film quality is really starting to sag now:

Sigh.

given how much I respect Stephen Brunt, I want to believe he was under a lot of (mostly external) pressure to jump the gun on breaking the AS/TNSE deal

Devils' Writeup 2011-12

Let's get a look at those salaries:

Issue #1: The Salvador Problem

Salvador was cleared to do off-ice workouts just this past week. I just can't see a scenario where he makes the team. I don't know if the Devils intend to buy him out or what.

Issue #2: Salary in General

If Parise does get a one-year deal, it will be for probably less than the amount I've indicated above. But if he gets a multi-year deal, it will probably be for more than that amount. And there's still a need for a backup goalie.

Here's what I think NJ should do -

Trade David Clarkson. Yes, he led the Devils in even-strength shots last season at 5 on 5. Yes, he's not a good player. Clarkson never saw a shot he didn't like and he has no offensive awareness. I don't know who will be fooled into taking him, though.

Lines without Clarkson:

Parise-Zajac-Palmieri
Rolston-Elias-Zubrus
Kovalchuk-Josefson-Tedenby
Pelley-Steckel-Zharkov

ex: Leblond

Tallinder-Fayne
White-Volchenkov
Taormina-?

Brodeur
?

Without Clarkson, there's plenty of $ to sign Andy Greene for that final spot - I'd sign him for 3 years at 2.2m per. Without Salvador, that leaves plenty of cash for a backup goalie - not sure who New Jersey would go after for that spot.
