ersberg waivers was a done deal except for injury. he was just an odd man out.

it does open the door for Bernier to take the starting job. (and I think he will by the playoffs)

yea, I was reading it and had a couple concerns. One appears to have been a typo.

I was also curious if there's been much discussion of it anywhere, because there are obviously a lot of assumptions, and I'm just wondering if it has it's critics?

but your post did inspire me to look into whether they quietly canned Auger over the summer, and.....place your bets, place your bets!

Spoiler:
doesn't look like it, he's still listed as an active ref of the NHLOA site. figures...

2-4 new refs for this season. Jean Hebert, Marcus Vinnerborg (who have 2010 start dates), and maybe Francis Charron & Kyle Rehman (who don't have dates listed, and i don't recall hearing their names before, so they must be new). totally uninteresting fun fact: they've only added 2 new linesman in the last 7 years (Byran Pancich last year, and Scott Cherrey in 2007). i guess they have a longer shelf-life than refs, something to consider for you kids out there looking for a new profession.

yeah i have problems with it - it's a nice stat but it's kind of meaningless without context. it's not meant to be a catch-all stat, hockey is 20 years away from that if it ever makes it there at all.

gabe desjard.ins has said that GVT undersells defense in general, which i agree with.

People say things like this but I don't know if they realize how bad replacement officials would be.

I'm 95% sure that he was working the Carolina game today, and he made a bunch of terrible calls no less.

yeah they tried that in the NBA...last year, was it? and after about 5 minutes, David Stern, the players, the fans, everyone figured out exactly how bad it was. must have given the refs some nice leverage.

It's also completely useless as a predictive stat.

For a few reasons. 1. Someone would probably give him an offer sheet, but the bigger reason is he would most likely file arbitration next year and that would not end well for SJ imo. It's all about keeping your players happy AND getting good value.

I wasn't too keen on the Sharks getting Niemi, but I don't think I'd ever regret it. They got good value even if he does have a chance to flame out.

The Isles have now added future hall of famer Michael Grabner and future hall of famer Kirill Kabanov to a core of Tavares, Bailey, and Okposo. They might make the playoffs in 5 years.
