good article here:

cliffs: if a qb is going to slide, the ball should be spotted at point where slide starts, not where he hits the ground, bc defenders can't hit him to stop forward progress.

cliffs cliffs: peyton got 2-3 extra yards resulting in a first down

I thought that the rule was changed years ago and that the ball is already supposed to be spotted where he starts his slide. Could be wrong though.

I always assumed it was where the ball is when they start their slide. But never really bothered to know the actual rule. Starting the slide is a sign of giving up without wanting to get hit, so I think it should be spotted at the point in time when they give up.

I'd say from most likely to not make the playoffs to least likely:

Titans
Ravens
Jets
Colts
Steelers
Pats

Runner Slide
Feet First
(c) whenever a runner declares himself down by sliding feet first on the ground. The ball
is dead at the spot of the ball at the instant the runner so touches the ground.
Note: Since the down is over when any part of a sliding runner’s body, other than his
hands or feet touches the ground, defenders are required to treat a sliding runner as
they would a downed runner.
(1) A defender must pull up when a runner begins a feet-first slide. That does not
mean that all contact by a defender is illegal. If a defender has already commit-
ted himself, and the contact is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender
makes some other act, such as helmet-to-helmet contact or by driving his fore-
arm into the head or neck area of the runner.
(2) A runner who desires to take advantage of the protection provided to a sliding
runner is responsible for starting his slide before contact by a defensive player is
imminent; if he does not, and waits until the last moment to begin his slide, he
puts himself in jeopardy of being tackled like a regular ball carrier.
(d) when a runner is so held or otherwise restrained that his forward progress ends.

There is still a lot of football to play. Right now it seems crazy that 1 or 2 really good AFC teams won't make the playoffs. Things will shake out, though. A major injury to the QB of any of these teams will possibly keep them out.

It would explain his less-than-impeccable timing this season.

We are really screwed if he has to miss significant time.

Also,

Randy Moss the player has value, but Chilly is a ****tard, and Moss (understandably IMO, even if his actions are not explicitly defensible) doesn't want to play for an egomaniac who makes terrible decisions.

imo, projected seeds:

#1 Steelers
#2 Pats
#3 Chiefs
#4 Titans/Colts
#5 Jets
#6 Titans/Colts

the AFC South race is a coinflip, 2 good teams. there are clear edges in the others, albeit ones that could change quickly

I guess I'm leaving the Ravens out b/c YTD they have been weaker than all the other top teams, but them snatching the #6 from the AFCS runner up wouldn't surprise me

What I've seen of Daniel, he looked really good in that system. Still might be screwed though. It's not like Daniel would be taking over a 7-2 team or something. Not a lot of room for error, especially with TB playing well

Apparently, the plan would be to have Drew play the entire season.

Of course a lot of people are doubting it the rumor.

Hasselbeck ruled out for week 9. Charlie Whitehurst to start. Of course, Whitehurst was likely to play in the game anyway, once Matt left the game after the first quarter in a body bag.

Does the Giants D still get credit for knocking him out of the game?

This is my only goal when playing Madden. Injure the QB. If I can get their 3rd-stringer in the game it's been a good game. One game I knocked all 3 out and they put their punter in at QB for the final few snaps (he just handed it off ldo). It's funny to see a real NFL team that is capable of doing this.

If the Brees injury is 5 weeks old, why not make up an alternative injury and sit him a game or two when your upcoming schedule is Carolina, Arizona, Tampa & Cleveland (where going in, most were thought to have been W's).

Also interesting that they neither signed nor worked out any other QBs during this time.

Well clearly he did hurt his knee vs Atlanta, he wore a brace for a little bit.

I'm guessing it still bothers him a little but the Saints were trying to hide it as so it wouldn't be a target
