Music show at super bowl isn't about catering to the area fans, who aren't attending anyway, it's about being as vanilla as possible usually with someone who hasn't been relevant in at least 10 years. They learned from that one time people flipped their **** over a boob.

he knows they're gonna try and run him into the ground and the rest of the league just thinks "fresh legs". Unless, of course, the NFL owners really do collude.

He's a HOF talent and still young enough to get a 4-year deal with top of the market guarantees. And his new team will probably lighten his load. My guess is he'll get some of that money and come back just before game 7, so that he'll end up under 300 touches for the year.

Bell knows that the players are getting the short end of the stick and is taking a stand. I mean it's the only reason I can see him willingly give up so much money. I suppose he might be willing to sacrifice that money in order to minimize his odds of getting injured and thus hurting his value. At the same time, are owners going to want to hire a problem player who might holdout? He's at a position where players are very easily replaceable. It'd be a different story if he was a quarterback. Conner is already proving to be an adequate replacement though obviously not as good as Bell.

Dan Snyder will probably give Bell exactly what he wants if he doesn’t have any other suitors.

he's basically holding out hope on at least one gm being a huge moron. probably the right move. playing this year all guaranteed is already more than he's worth

for it to be smart, he must be concerned about his future performance more than the injury risk. (which might be smart, as his YP carry and catch were lower than his career average last year)

(ignoring the 'only $10m guaranteed' BS) it seems he could have got something in the $14m per season with $33m in the first 2 seasons and $45m over 3. I presume if yrs 3 and 4 weren't guaranteed for injury, he could take out an insurance policy to protect years 3 and 4 from an injury perspective so what's really at risk is the years 3 and 4 salaries that he could lose if he was cut by the Steelers after yr 2.

let's say this hold out costs him $7m...that's if he holds out for 8 games.. so he needs absolute guarantees of over $40m for it to be $ neutral and more for it to be $ positive and then for yrs 3,4 and 5 to be a lot more lucrative in terms of annual salary

it does seem possible I guess...and certainly more so now that Gurley has changed the market but it still does require an excitable GM and owner prepared to commit a **** load of $$ for a 27yo RB in his yrs 29 and 30 seasons

try as I might to reduce my NFL consumption, I still have a soft spot for watching Belichick talk to the press

reporter: "Did you have a chance to meet with him [Josh Gordon]?"

BB: "Any other questions?"

Imagine a homeless person being gifted a Ferrari then him selling it for $400k, and then being made fun of when he says "man I would love a Ferrari". He's not saying his Ferrari wasn't awesome, just that the price he got for it + his situation made the sale make sense.

And btw, Trubisky better get a whole lot better than he has been (30th in any/a) or else the Bears are gonna start to look bad real soon

Bell isn't "giving up" anything. He's just doing what he thinks will maximize his total career earnings even if it means making less money this year. Calling it "sacrificing" money is ridiculous.

correct...none of these guys are doing anything for anybody else, even Kirk Cousins who got the fully guaranteed contract. He's just using his leverage to give himself the chance for another top of the market contract in two or three years time.

Bell is taking a calculated risk that a) there's more guaranteed $$ available at the end of the year for him than he'd have gotten this recent offseason and b) that he can survive the season healthy enough to cash in

he's just ****ing my fantasy season in the meantime

Fantasy brag: I picked #11 in my league's draft this year and taunted the league that they'd better not let Le'Veon Bell fall to me. (He went #2.) I took James Conner in the 15th round. lol.

I got Conner off of waivers in the 2p2 Politics league. Saved my ass given that I ended up missing the draft.

yeah, I picked him up in the third round figuring the value was too much by that point but I really figured he'd be back by week 3 or 4 so more fool me

dumb **** that I am, I didn't think through handcuffing Conner

He just needs to perform well in the limited number of games / snaps / touches he accrues over the second half of the season and he'll get his giant deal. If he turns up by week 8 he still makes over 7m on the year and will have shaved 150 - 200 touches wear and tear off his body at the end of the year. More now because Pitt will keep Conner involved to some extent even after he returns.

If he is out of shape when he comes back he's ****ed. If he performs below expectations he's ****ed. If he gets a major injury he's ****ed. But those risks all existed to begin with. Essentially he's investing a few million dollars in his own health and longevity and doesn't feel he owes his team any loyalty after they've taken a ruthless short term approach to him and his career.

I'm rooting for him.
