I'm not conservative by any means but feel like too much is being made of these comments. Not the "Hispanic players can't be leaders" one, that's stupid. But I don't see how it's controversial to expect players to learn to speak English. It's not like these guys have to take a community college course and English is like the easiest language OAT
This is actually pretty wrong. English's design is pretty damn dumb.
In 1994, the Indians were playing the White Sox. The Sox suspected that Albert Belle's bats were corked (they were) and challenged his bat; the umpires took the bat back to their locker room to investigate later.
The Indians, knowing Belle's bat was corked, sent Jason Grimsley to switch the bat with another teammate's. He climbed in from the ceiling of the locker room and made the switch.
After the game, the umps noticed that the bat didn't look the same and there was some ceiling tile on the floor. The police began investigating it as theft, and the FBI even got involved at one point.
Eventually, Belle was suspended when they actually got one of his bats to look into.
Dunno how that story has escaped me my whole life, but I found it pretty amusing.
I don't listen to Jim Rome any more, but I wouldn't be surprised if he still mentions this Joey Belle story weekly.
I dont think Pedroia would want to be in the conversation. Im sure a good % of Sox fans would rank him as their favourite player but i dont think he would resonate with fans of other teams. I agree that with bware for the fact that Mookie and Sale are prob the first 2 names mentioned when talking about the Sox this season.
If you don't believe in tilt in baseball, this Padres' pitcher is the epitome. Walks a batter w/ 2 out. Next batter he walks and guy on first advances to third. Then gives up a HR, another HR, and then misses an easy fielding play on a grounder.
