He did his job in the 8th (came in up 3 with 2 on and 2 out). Then the Sox tack on one more in top 9 - why bring him back out? He ended up throwing 30some pitches and may not be available today. I don't expect perfection every game, that just seemed like a chance to save his arm. But Saves tho.
He threw four pitches in the 8th and hadn't pitched the last two days. I don't profess to know a ton about reliever management, but sending him out for the 9th seems like a no-brainer. Dwelling on him throwing a ton of pitches in the 9th is pure results oriented thinking.
Ron Gant had my favorite ejection ever. Took a called third that was outside, flipped the bat over so he was holding the barrel, and on his way back to the 3B dugout, drew a line with the knob in the dirt in the LH batter's box where he thought the pitch was. Didn't appear to say a word and the ump tossed him immediately.
