Calling a fake punt at your own 30, taking the points on 4th and 1 at the opponent 21.

Should have gone for it on 4th and 1 but I liked the fake punt call. Took a great play by the defender to stop it.

This is an absolute masterclass by BOB. 4th and 4 down three scores with 11 minutes left he wants to punt, Watson screams that he's a ****ing idiot, BOB takes a timeout and then goes for it. jfc

Both were probably correct, or at least very close

Just so there's no confusion, kicking the FG on 4th and 1 up 21 points wasn't close at all. That's an autokick.

I don't get how people, especially here, don't get this.

I think the fake punt was correct. Chiefs had just scored their first TD and you don't want to give them the ball back.

I think they ended up scoring 6 TDs in a row, Mahomes likely scores even if you punt it back to him.

It was 7 TDs in a row, almost 8.

BOB gotta make it into the thread title.

People here are conditioned to think that if it seems close, the more aggressive play is always correct (because NFL coaches are pussies). They don't adjust correctly when ahead by a million points.

As a Chiefs fan I was thrilled when BOB kicked. Play action TD there really puts the dagger in. Might not have ultimately mattered in this case though.

Yeah 24-0 and 28-0 is super different....

Yeah, Chiefs offense had looked all out of sync so far, you knew it was gonna start clicking at some point, but I don't think anyone predicted the explosion that was coming. Making it essentially a 4-possession game at that point by kicking makes more sense to me.

And you aren't adjusting correctly for opponent. Up by 21/17 in the second quarter on the road against mahomes is not "up by a million"

Lets focus on what matters: he was going to punt with like 11:00 left on 4th and 3 from midfield down 20 against Patrick Mahomes.

Separately he wasted his first half timeouts which ended up mattering because of course.

if that wasn't an attempt at some dumb fake then it was indeed the most obviously boneheaded thing he did all day

though i guess the fake would be equally dumb, so yes, boneheaded all around

Someone posted in the other thread that Houston’s Win % decreased by 2.5% before the FG was attempted. If true, the FG attempt is a catastrophic mistake. Houston was somewhere in the 80% area at the time. Look at it this way. Chiefs went from 20% to 22.5%. That’s a big difference

The fake was great. It didn’t work, but it was very close to being a 30 yard play. Obviously stupid he’ll take a risk like that but not go for it on the other play, but this was a good spot to fake it and a good play call too

The FG on 4th-and-1 certainly isn't automatic against a team that can score seven touchdowns in 26 minutes
