Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers)
Based somewhat on Next (just a terrible, terrible movie) you possess the ability to reverse time at will, but only for a maximum of 2 minutes. This allows you to relive the immediate past as many times as you wish, preventing you from making mistakes. Basically you are allowed to treat life like a video game where you could reset it until you win.
With this ability, could you make it to the NBA/NFL/MLB?

**** no. I might have a 1 in a million shot if I could go back 30 years knowing what I know now, but NFW otherwise.

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
how would you be aging? would you get 2 min older than your peers every time you turned back time?
Biggest advantage would be playing quarterback imo.

You could literally (from everyone else's POV) make 1,000 in a row half court hook shots...blindfolded. You don't think you get a tryout?

No. You only age with the "real" timeline.

I would obviously be the world's greatest QB until the Super Bowl, where I find out the other team's defensive coordinator has the same ability

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
If you're dedicated and patient enough (and at least somewhat close to athletic enough), sure. You'd suck in a lot of respects but if you could give comparable performance in 10 tries then your shooting/catching/batting average would be pretty decent. More a question of whether you'd be be tired or fully refreshed when you jump back.
Few people could block a nose tackle or make a 55 yard FG in 50 tries. But I imagine you could hit a baseball and field fly balls as an outfielder given enough repeats.

You would be "refreshed" to whatever level you had at the "refresh point", i.e. if you sprint for 1m59s you could "refresh" to the point just before the sprint and not be winded, but if you ran for 3 minutes you could only refresh to the 1 minute mark, and would be correspondingly tired.

I think QB would be the only option for a non-athlete in the NFL, but maybe not.

QB would be the biggest beneficiary and my first choice. Of course I'm about that size and can throw a football without looking horrible, but I don't even want to guess how many takes I'd need to get through a touchdown drive. Complete about 80% with my noodle arm and never take sacks or turn the ball over. Study this throwing motion Collingsworth

0% shot as a QB. You don't have the arm to complete real passes in the NFL even with hundreds of tries.

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
Can we reverse any injuries we incur? If not, the NFL would be impossible. Even if so, the constant pain would be a total *****.
In non-NFL leagues, the primary obstacle would be boredom (*insert joke about watching baseball*). Suffering through a 50:1 ratio of played minutes to actual timeline minutes—or whatever the hell multiple we'd have to average to consistently realize our microscopic chance of converting a successful play—wouldn't be fun. If we could surmount that, sure, why not.
I think I could chuck ridiculous basketball shots up ad nauseum and sport a 80+ FG% from way beyond the arc. I'd assault whomever I was defending until I got a clean steal. Rinse, repeat. But I'd probably hit myself in the forehead with my baseball bat more often than I'd get on base.
I'm a teenage girl, though, so it'd probably be easier for most of y'all.

Thinking about this a bit more, sure, you'd actually be a great NFL quarterback for the reasons mentioned. But, how in the world would you go about getting a tryout considering a (guessing) 35-yard maximum throwing distance, and no real way to 'wow' the scouts.

You'd be able to reverse any "traumatic" injuries, e.g. breaking your leg...so long as you noticed that it was fractured/broken within 2 minutes of it being injured. The slow build-up of bumps and bruises you'd probably have to deal with though (although I suppose you could replay it enough so that you're never actually touched).

By completing 80% of my passes with my noodle arm and never turning the ball over in high school and college. Not trying to be a #1 overall

What kind of passes would you throw in the NFL though?

West Coast offense, LDO. Anything within 15 yards would be comparatively "easy". And given that most passes are within 15 yards, it seems like a piece of cake, no?

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
The same floaty high arc ones I did as a kid I imagine, and the short things 10 yards away. Sweet combination of slow release, terrible footwork, and Tebow like full body motion.

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
If we could circumvent the whole making-the-roster-on-our-own-merits thing, we'd be a highly +WP NFL player just by sitting on the bench and navigating through timeline forks such that the opposing coach throws away like a billion WP. We might have to go back a couple minutes maybe 3-4 times.

But all you do is win.
(I would pay to watch First Take after one of your games. God, it'd be great.)

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
Read-Option more obvs imo
If your body goes back to pre-jump standard then you only have to deal with the memory of the pain of getting crushed by a 300 pound lineman the first 5 times around

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers).
No amount of tries would allow me to play passable NBA defense. Could hit shots coming off screens with enough re-dos.
No amount of retries would allow me to be a serviceable MLB player at any position.
Quarterback would probably not be remotely feasible. I'd still have to learn plays in an offense, prove mastery, and then not die when I get pummeled by some LB at my ~ 175 playing weight. Even if we can go back to avoid serious injuries and I never suffer a concussion rendering my ability to go backwards temporarily useless, wear and tear would be insane. Also holy crap, the repetition at practice.
So no, probably not. Would probably go completely insane because, unlike a video game, my physical abilities are not going to receive a power-up just because I can try things beyond my capacity over and over again.
Golf, I will say, I could probably play pretty well.

I mean, if you could go back in time at will, you might as well take your shots at becoming a megalomaniac dictator of a small country.

I think they'll overlook your defense when you're knocking down threes at an 80% clip. (And I'm sure you would get a lot of steals given you know where every pass is going).

Designated hitter? Your OBP would be so elite.

Wear and tear? Do you mean mentally? Because you'd never actually have to be touched by the defense (unless you mean your arm would wear down or something).
You're definitely right about the repetition though.

Re: Hypothetical (complete with IRL superpowers)
I don't think you can be horribly far off physically. Some people would need 15 tries just to catch a shotgun snap and that's going to work. I've got the size and while never a QB I did play ball and some other sports. Sure as hell wouldn't be pretty but (at least at NFL-entry age) I think the redo option is enough. It's more a matter of how perfectionist and patient you're able to be.
Effectively you're always going to see the most open guy as well as every hole in the defense. Your timing is always going to be impeccable. Even with good coverage you can throw enough toss-up passes for your receivers to come down with them sometimes.
More I think on it though MLB would probably be the way to go. You'd need to get your arm strength and throwing speed at your max for sure, but you could get on base every at bat.
