So excited.

Hope this the tournament where Messi destroys the world. Argentina beating Brazil in the final would make it all the sweeter.

They should just string blatter up like a pinata and let each team take cracks at him. Whoever makes him burst gets to kickoff.

Hopefully this wc is a success and can spark some change in a country like Brazil where the corruption is apparently rampant.

Unfortunately my thoughts are that if this wc makes a lot of money for Brazil that the money will be pocketed by individuals such as politicians and those that keep corrupt officials in power.

I posted a fitting reply to that a few days ago in the Qatarded thread.

If you can get a WC to your country then that's a huge win for you (and your friends, and your brothers, and your cousins, and your nephews...) no matter how deep into the **** you're running your country with the tasks of preparing, organizing and holding the event.

Same holds true for FIFA officials who, as has been said, dgaf about FIFA. They care about their own (and their grandkids') bottom lines.

Hence -> Bribery

You guys don't think Qatar was the first country to buy a WC/Olympic Games, do you? It's just that up until Qatar, FIFA/IOC never made it so blatantly obvious that they were bribed, by giving those events to, at the very least, semi-capable countries.

*I say almost, because at least Platini was, in his former career, an actual footballer, and quite an elite one at that, whilst Blatter was President of the World Society of Friends of Suspenders in his former career.
Platini voted for Qatar too

If Germany plays with Mertesacker, Hummels, Boateng, Khedira, Klose and Howedes all at the same time, they will be unreal in set pieces.

Some of these are pretty good imo

Brazil: The home team. Land of thongs and garbage heaps! It's amazing that we're about to waste a month of everyone's time on this tournament when it's just gonna end with Brazil hoisting up the trophy and grinning like the entitled dicks that they are. What a letdown. Why even bother? To get to the average World Cup game, you will have to slalom through a harbor strewn with bloated corpses and fight off sentient armies of giant flying cockroaches that have evolved to feel real emotion. It's not worth it.

50 person riot? lol you. There have been nationwide protests against the WC basically all the time since the Confederations Cup.

Yeah, this. It seems like this WC will probably just make things even worse for the people of Brazil. Anyway, we're getting dangerously close to politarding now.

Opening ceremony in 15 minutes!

Yeah, I know.. and so does every other person that has ever seen a tv or heard a radio. I was talking about the huge 50 person protest that was held today though. One would think that we have heard enough about the protests already w/o hearing about today's "protest.

I'm going to brazil in 8 days and my first order of business is to recruit 3-4 other people to yell "we are protesting" at baggage claim so I can be on every news station and newspaper cover in the world. Wish me luck.

First attempt at cooking foods from the world cup countries. Think some dude did this for the 2006 Cup.

Trying croatian "jota"

Quote:
The Istrian stew or yota (Croatian: Istarska jota; Slovene: Jota, Italian: Jota) is a stew, made of beans, sauerkraut or sour turnip, potatoes, bacon, spare ribs, known in the northern Adriatic region. It is especially popular in Istria and some other parts of north-western Croatia. Under the name yota (jota), it is also typical of the whole Slovenian Littoral and in certain areas of North Eastern Italy, especially in Trieste, Gorizia and some peripheral areas of north-eastern Friuli (the Carnia mountains and Slavia Veneta).

The dish shows the influence of both Central European and Mediterranean cuisine. In most of the recipes, olive oil is used, and the main seasoning is garlic.

In Slovenian Istria, it is often eaten together with polenta.

I'll give you 5.6 on Australia to score 0 goals in the world cup. My $56 to your $10. QTB before Australia's first game kicks off.

edit: wait did i get the $$ right on that?
