Used to be the reigning champion all through my childhood (no clue about before that). First time that it was the host nation was 2006 Germany. Been host nation ever since.

It used to be the defending champs but they changed it to the host nation a couple of world cups ago

They changed it in 2006 as the reigning champion was no longer guaranteed a place in the next WC.

I'd like to OrsonWellesApplauding.gif this, if it weren't but a super obvious attempt by an almost* equally scummy confederation executive to grab Blatter's seat at the helm of FIFA.

*I say almost, because at least Platini was, in his former career, an actual footballer, and quite an elite one at that, whilst Blatter was President of the World Society of Friends of Suspenders in his former career.

Just a warning, but we are most likely going to win the cup this year and if by some miracle we dont, I cant speak for the rest of my country, but I will be crying foul about the riggage that would have to happen for us to lose.
