lol @ Dilshan's wagon wheel, it's the anti V. 77 out of 105 runs behind the wicket.

SL absolutely smashed it. Won with 6 overs left or something.

Last game should be good.

Making just 275 with wickets in hand at the Adelaide Oval is pretty unforgivable. Warner making 100 off 140 could easily be construed as selfishness imo

Sri Lanka have more top end batting quality IMO and as usual the wickets aren't giving the bowlers much to work with. Our biggest issue is that we have some seriously ordinary players in the team ATM - Doherty and McKay anyone...

Also the selectors are using the series to test several players at international level like wade and Forrest with an eye for them playing in the test team relatively soon.

Why is Brett Lee still playing?

Interestingly 275 is avg score at Adelaide Oval, so they didn't really under perform but certainly should have scored more than what they did

The issue for me is that we made 275 with wickets in hand and with 2 guys making centuries, its really not good enough imo.

yea 100 in 140 balls is not acceptable in modern ODI cricket unless you're chasing and know your target.

We played a junior game years ago, maybe under 15s or so.

One guy on our team made 60 or so with only one run forward of square, a block and run, and the team still kept the usual one slip, a gully and a fine leg only behind square.

Yep, agree.

Im Warner's biggest fan (we have the same surname) and his innings today was pretty greedy.

@badders, while 280 is the par or so, there is a big difference between a scratchy 8/270 with no-one breaking 50, and with two making a century. We really should have made 320+

For those wondering why I dont post during midweek games the matches are delayed into Perth by three hours, so obv I dont want spoilers.

lol School Cricket tactics.

Whenever we came up against a kid who as truly woeful, we intentionally wouldn't get him out so the team couldn't score. The coach of the team often retired the batsmen at the crease

Spoiler:
Our team was woeful too and everyone cared about football

lol @ a 3 hour delay. Can't you watch the same channel in all of Aus?

In under 12s and 14s games for the most part we had limits on batting for most intra town events, and it was only the inter town games that allowed us to bat for longer then the usual which IIRC was either 4 overs or 15 balls, where games were done in a few hours.

As such, every time we played full 50 over games we would usually get rolled after 30 because no-one would last more then 10 overs max.

About not getting people out, we played a 50 over tournament named Lynch Shield against 6 other towns in the district. It had a weird scoring system where teams got 4 points for a win, and 1 point for every individual player that got a wicket, and every player that scored more then 10 runs.

Anyway, I was playing one day and didnt get to bat, because I was made to bat 10 or so. So the captain gives me a bowl when we have them 7 down, and get a wicket in my first over. He feels bad that I didnt bat, and lets me have one more over, and I clean up the tail, costing us potentially 2 more points for the league, since I only get one point for 3 wickets compared to others getting those points, and we lose the league by two points later in the season.

About TV, Foxtel channels run at the same time, but for sports such as cricket which are only on terrestial free-to-air TV we are at the mercy of the individual states programming, and they would generally prefer to have the second innings on at night here when people get home from work compared to live, even the finals series (Sunday games are live).

At least we dont have to pay for a TV licence here

lol @ 50 over game. We used to play 10 - 15 overs a side games and used to get bowled out constantly.

We once played a "test match" which finished in one day.

We played 22 overs usually (Two overs each) with a 4 over per batsmen cap and retirees could come back later in the match.

When we had carnivals against other schools/towns we played longer games, and I think we batted through maybe 10% of the time, even when we had district matches that involved some of the best kids in the entire rural state.

Ashleys favourite junior cricket moment.

Countryweek U16s (A bunch of country towns playing each other in divisions). We are in division 3 against a few teams from our district league and some randoms.

After the first three games we are 3-0, including one game chasing down 220 over 50 overs because someone made a century.

Game 4 we bat first and get rolled for 70 and lose.

Last game if we win we still win the title, and we are playing the town closest to us, our biggest rivals.

We field and roll them for 90, with one particularly hated kid making 40ish.

We bat needing only 90 to win and make 80. FWIW I contributed 2...

LOL children.

Ash- Your best memory should be your article printed in the local paper. That was good

I remember an Inter school tournament when each class had a team.

It was a knockout tournament and on the day of our game just about all the capable sportsmen were off sick.

Anyway (dont mean to brag) I pretty much single handedly bowled the opposition out for about 8.

The teacher umpiring the match insisted I came in at 11

Spoiler:
We were 3/9 when i came in.

Spoiler:
I played one shot and was caught on the boundary.

The whole team was out bowled or run out after blocking the ball back to the bowler. Hit and run amirite?

Amazingly one of our openers batted the whole innings (probaby faced about 20 balls) without scoring a run and he thought he'd done well to avoid getting out.

Think tears were in my eyes (11 years old iirc)

I used to have epic tantrums getting out when I was younger.

lol badminton your story is so similar to one I have from 6th grade. I was a bolwer who could bat a bit, one game we were playing in we bowled the opposition out for like 11.

We were 5/5 or something when I came in and hit a four and a 2 to win and was heralded a batting legend, who singlehandedly saved our team from the jaws of defeat.

I was then made the opener for the next four matches (a very prestigious honour) and proceeded to not cross into double digits once.

For those who dont know my local paper story Badders is referencing.

I grew up in a town of around 5000 people with a local rag weekly newspaper. When I was playing under 12s in my first year when I was 9 and we played among our selves every week, they used to report all the scores to the paper and run a small article each week.

Anyway, each week one of the kids Dads would write up the result in a quick few paragraph essay and send it in. The week we had to do it, my Dad thought it woud be a rather good idea to give me some English practice and write the piece myself.

So rather then the usual "everyone played well, Ben made 11, Sam took two wickets" puff that was usually printed, I wrote a rather scathing review of basically everyone who made ducks, and Ashley was the hero despite only scoring about 3 and dropping two catches.

A few kids and their parents didnt like the fact I was so critical of some of the kids I was basically the social outcast for the rest of the season. This worked out well because I was usually made to bat last. But since we had a "retire after four overs" rule in place, if I was batting last I got to have a few whole overs rather then batting at the non-strikers end, which meant I faced more then everyone else, and got to hit the glory winning runs three weeks in a row.

csb...

---------------------

RE: actual innings, we had a training camp when I was 14 or so for the best 14 players in the district. A few couldnt make it so I was allowed to join in as a fill in.

On the second day of the camp we had a friendly match, everyone would bat in pairs for 8 overs and face the same two bowlers. For some reason, they decided to make me open (with the hated kid from the Countryweek story) against two guys who were at the time a few years older then me and pushing for State selection and bowling pretty ****ing quick.

I dont know exactly how, but I played a cracking innings of around 30 with 5 glorious square drive fours (outside edges) and some wonderful leg glances (re: leg byes that they thought I got a bit of)

I get invited to rep the area in a grade game and score a woeful 1 off about 20 and get carted for around 9 an over, ending my "illustrious" career.

SA 121-4. Kallis and AB out for ducks. Don't see that everyday.

SA 182-7

Martin and Vettori have bowled really really well. Amla was looking good on 62 but tried to cut one that was too full

I think anything over 200 here and SA will be somewhat satisfied. They have the bowling to defend any sort of total and the conditions will help Steyn and Philander for sure.

Not seen a thing but SA finish the day on 191/7

Sounds like it could have been a lot worse and they'll be happy with that

I just hope that when I turn the TV on at 9:30pm again I see more than covers on the pitch.

Talking of needing a fix of cricket - just noticed that there is a fair gap in the calendar when the only international cricket is Oz in the WI. I used to love WI tours but the pitches there are so lifeless now, and the WI teams so inept, that I struggle to follow these series much. I guess the IPL will be on though.

Also, I think those who mildly critisise Warners innings are being kind. He's a fascinating player for sure, but that has to be the worst one-day hundred I've ever seen.

Final also, it looks like Chris Cairns could be in some trouble.

ashley12 indoor cricket news...

We generally like to bat first and defend a total, but the other team was late and was allowed to bat first since they only 4 people at the centre when the game started.

We held them to around 80, when a par score in our league is probably 120 or so, with me bowling the last over of the first "skin", taking 2/-1, and the last over of the innings, with another 2/-7 and could have had two more but for dropped catches.

Our batting however, was a ****ing disaster. When we have players who, no offence is anyone on our team if they do manage to end up reading this, happened to take our instructions from this video

We ended up a total score of around -8, and lost every skin. I didnt help batting last and when needing 17 on the last 4 balls got out to leave us drawing pretty much dead.

Indoor cricket you lose runs for wickets (-5).

The nets are roughly the length of a basketball court, and as wide as maybe 3/4 of a basketball court.

The net behind the stumps are worth 0, from just backward of point/square leg to about a straightish cover/midwicket is 1, and the other sides further up the pitch are worth 2, with the back net being worth 4 and 6, as well as the runs you run obviously. You must run for the sidenet runs to count.

Each section of four overs is called a skin, and each section of four overs each is a mini-match and worth 1 point for the season each, and the overall match is worth 4 points.

So for example today we lost 8-0, had we won one skin it would have been 7-1.

Wides are not bowled again except for the last over of each "skin" which is why as a general rule the better bowlers bowl in the last over of each pair (I tend to be a slower, whiter, not as good version of Lasith Malinga, so I generally bowl our last overs. As well as that the last delivery of each pair is a "Powerball" worth double runs, as well as double loss of runs for wickets (in our first game my partner didnt know the rules on the powerball, so made a heroic charge down the pitch only to be beaten by a bit of seam and stumped by about 10 feet)

The fact we didnt break even for the day was a sign of how poorly we batted. In fact, I would link scorecards if it wasnt for the fact I was so terrible today

----------------------------------------

In other news, the Sri Lanka vs Australia final is delayed into Perth again tomorrow. ****ing angry, why the second final wasnt made on a Wednesday and the 3rd final on a Friday or Saturday is beyond me.
