so it's essentially a two year 26 million dollar deal, that the jets could cut while only eating the signing bonus, looks like they would only eat 4 mil if they cut him after 2.

lol

eta- meanwhile if he survived the same two years in pitt he would have made 33 million. obviously fully guaranteed 25 is better than two year rolling 33 with a fully guaranteed somewhere around 17.

I don't think Bell really "blew" his chances - just the RB position is on the decline in value. He might be the last RB ever to make over $12 million a year in a long term contract. Maybe even over $10 million.

The Bell discussion is very results oriented. If Conner doesn't pan out for example the Steelers would have caved and paid Bell big money.

Are we really shocked Conner panned out? Denagelo played very well despite being mediocre as hell at the end in Carolina. The system for the Steelers is gold and most rbs are going to look better than they would, elsewhere.

Not shocked. Bell gambled, he lost. It's wrong to look at his current contract as if that was the only possible result imo. Maybe it was a bad gamble but that is not obvious.

but there was ample evidence the system is everything. see deangelo. then a rookie tight end was fine as the lead ball carrier. it would have been a huge shock for conner to look richardsonesque

Which FA backs have gotten truly paid by another team??

Murray is one I can think of.

Murray for 5 years 42.

He only made 26 in his career.

Lamar Miller for 4 years 26.

Leveon just got 4 years 53.

McKinnon got 4 years 30, but can be cut before April 1st for free essentially.

Market for free agent rbs kind of sucks. Only two chances to make big time money as rbs, being drafted top 5 or getting paid after year first deal expires.

For some reason this Michael Bennett quote amuses me:

Quote:
“I used to hate the Patriots,” the 33-year-old said when asked about his initial reaction to the move. “I hated because they’d win so much. I hated because Tom Brady’s hair was long. Hated that Belichick would wear sweaters. But now that I’m here, I love it. I love Tom Brady’s hair, I love being a Patriot.”

Wait until you see what Jerrys gonna give Zeke. Connor playing well definitely hurt Bell. Also not clear if Bell always intended on skipping the whole season or if plans changed mid season.

I don’t mind the Tate signing for a good team. He’s still very good and if the guarantees don’t go past two years, it’s decent value.

He’d be a great WR for a young QB to throw to as well

Obviously makes no sense if you’re tanking but the Giants actions have been totally incoherent so who the **** knows?

Gettleman in his mind, isn't tanking. The guy dumped Steve Smith and Josh Norman for no god damn reason other than they didn't shut up 24/7/365.

When Gettleman was hired by the Giants and I read posters' warnings about how awful he was, I just knew they were kidding.

They weren't. What a reputation to have to live up to, but "Congratulations, Gett! You surpassed expectations."
