I'm probably going to fail to convey this properly. But here goes anyway.
I have this theory based on first hand experience with tennis and pool and watching other sports intently - that sometimes you can get in a sick groove where everything seems super easy, especially early in your progression in the sport. During this early moon shot - your mechanics and fundamentals are far from perfect, but you're just completely feeling it and bursting with that confidence that only comes from never going through a soul-rattling slump.
I used to show up to play tennis and was just dropping it on a dime wherever I wanted with my shitty self-taught form. But then it wouldn't work the next time. I finally took some lessons and realized how far off I was from proper technique. I tried to completely retool but my tennis partners got tired of me hitting it into the net. So I just decided to stay with my crappy form. The funny part is once I learned proper form, I never had confidence in my shitty form again. My backhand, which sucked - got a little better. But my forehand, which I swear used to be pretty good, got worse.
I've seen the same thing at pool, where I do know some form. My friend would start running the table w/o lining the ball up much or following through - just feeling it. And I'd just wait for him to miss and get frustrated that his magic is over.
I'm not saying Jackson is in that groove. But when I see him throw passes like that big one he hit to Hollywood - w/o being really set - I wonder how repeatable they are - year in/year out. Honestly I wonder the same thing about Mahomes too. I have faith in him to figure out what's needed to be consistent for the long haul - but a big slump at some point wouldn't shock me.
Cutlahh used to throw off his back foot all the time - until that didn't work anymore. Cutlahh is a perfect example of someone I did not have faith in to get through the slump and figure out whatever it takes for him to be solid and repeatable.
Maybe this is the new wave and solid robotic footwork and mechanics don't matter as much anymore. Or maybe they do.
Again - I'm not trying to bash Jackson and obviously he's already gone through a lot last year, so it's not like he's still in some confidence bubble phase. This is more just about QBs who don't look that fundamentally sound - including Mr. All-World - and my curiosity if this is sustainable.
