As said earlier, Pats are very good at identifying players from other teams. They got Van Noy for little, he’s been very good for them.

Two recent examples: they basically got additional value to get a season each out of Brandin Cooks and Trent Brown.

Oh and their GOAT QB gets paid far less than he should. That’s been their biggest unfair advantage imo.

I wonder how much a legit chance to win a SuperBowl - vs. say going to the Giants or Raiders - is worth to the average good starter making say $5-$10M per year - $1m per?

I think most NFL/NBA guys don't give a **** about winning a SB/NBA Title

Also, Teddy gets 7.5m guaranteed with incentives to hit 12.5m. Less than I thought when I thought someone was going to make him a long-term starter, but I still hit the over on that 5m.

I would be absolutely blown away if this was true for even 1/3 of the league.

Doubt many NFL guys care at all but with the contracts being non-guaranteed you do wanna give consideration to which team is a good fit so that you can be productive and continue getting paid. So deciding which team to join can't just be all about money.

In the NBA there is more longevity so you've got guys on their 2nd or 3rd big money contract so they can make decisions to leave money on the table.

I mean, they drafted Tom Brady

But yeah, I don't think they excel at college scouting.

I thought this was interesting from the Barnwell article on the Teddy signing

Brees' stats last season - could it be the start of a decline? Nath, was there any info out there about an injury to Brees?

No way.

I mean sure people aren't going to go poor for a better shot at a championship but no doubt people would take a bit less for a shot at glory.

I own/run a small headhunting firm. In my experience. 20% more is the point at which the money starts becoming too good to ignore, even if the firm is less attractive. This figure is the guideline at all levels.

Doesn’t always make the difference but very often does

33M or something like that for 16 games of him being terrible. Gettleman is a 1st round pick in worst person to have in your organization draft.

Has to be #1 overall, right?

Who else? Matt Millen?

Are we expanding this to other sports? James Dolan? Billy King?

Option A
Draft Darnold
Keep Odell
Sign Leveon if you love RBs so much
Cut Eli for 6.2M dead cap.

Darnold + Odell + Leveon + (Eli 6.2 dead) = 42M or so in 2019.

Option B
Pay Eli Manning 23.2M dollars
Sign Golden Tate for 9M a year.
Draft Saquon for 7.1M a year.
Trade Odell for 16M dead cap.

Eli + Tate + Saquon + (Odell 16M dead) = 56M or so.

Heavy price to pay for 2 cheap years of Jabrill Peppers and 17th overall.

Steve Keim is less visible but he’s proved himself to be historically incompetent

I mean, he's proved that he can't drive sober, pick up reasonable free agents or hire an acceptable coach, buuuuuuuut, he's not Gettleman bad.

Redskins have been consistently mediocre. Loria won 2 World Series. Gilbert is awful, but quite lucky.

Sterling is right up there, though.
