Browns have a legit Super Bowl roster if not now, then in a few years.

So many young players. Sashi Brown will not be recognized for helping this team be what it is today.

Sorry should have clarified. 1st or 2nd in PPR scoring for FF since 2011.

Taking on 16M dead is terrible and will get completely glossed over. Terrible trade for NYG. They could have just kept Odell and traded #2 overall for way more than this + not have a dead cap charge of 16M.

Browns SB odds dropped from 25-1 to 14-1. 3rd favorite in the AFC.

Ford for a 2020 second round pick from the niners.

Hopefully we still take bosa or fleece the giants, since they seem to be in a giving mood, for their two first round picks and take sweat and a wr.

It's incredible that Tom Brady's career will be long enough so that he can beat the Cleveland Browns in an AFC Championship game.

I know nothing of NFL finances. Did the Giants agree to pay a portion of the contract like you always hear about in other sports? Or can you not trade full value of contracts? Sorry for the no0b questions

Looks like there's 5/$77m left on OBJ's contract. Pretty pretty nice.

Giants didn’t have the number two pick, they have the sixth pick.

The graph shows the 17th pick you get a lot of production for the price.

So I guess the Giants go QB/WR or WR/QB depending on how they rank Drew Lock?

Gentleman probably just didn't watch any NFL this year & assumed the Browns 1st was a top 5 pick.

yeah, I really like Baker too, I thought he'd be best out his QB class - but Pitt had a point differential of +68 last year to Browns -33, so let's not go crazy.

Ya they should have traded #2 overall from last year.

The graph shows the avg 17th overall is worth like 6M in surplus value over the first 4 years of the contract.

An NFL contract has a mix of guaranteed and non-guaranteed money per year. If a player is cut or traded, the team who traded him is still on the hook for the gtd. money, and it counts against their salary cap.

Here is a web site that sorts it all out, and the link goes right to the Giants.

Could Odell Beckham have gotten them the #1 in this draft? Taking Kyler Murray would have been better than this trade.

Straight up the cards wouldn’t do it though. They’re not in position to trade for a wr with so many needs.

Rosen not bad like people think. They'd need the OL fixed as it was the worst ever but man if they could luck into like Garret Bradbury at the top of the 2nd.......he's probably gone after that sick combine though.....

You keep saying this. They were the worst team in the league. Obj and whatever changes they make aren’t going to make the cards a contender soon. The nfc is stacked. Odell makes sense for the browns who are pretty close to being there and might already be there. The cards have marginal pieces all over the place right now.

I was expecting at least two first-round picks for OBJ if he was traded.

Honestly, I'm still gobsmacked.

That's not quite right. Guaranteed $ can flow with a contract. The main thing that doesn't is the signing bonus.

When a team signs a player to a signing bonus, the player gets the $ relatively quickly, but it gets prorated out over the length of the contract for salary cap purposes.

When the player gets cut or traded, the remaining amount all goes on the cap for that season.

So let's say the Giants gave OBJ a $30m signing bonus on a 6 year contract, with an additional $15m of salary per year. In that 1st year, OBJ gets $45m, but his cap hit is $20m for each year.

If he gets traded after that 1st year, the remaining $25m of prorated signing bonus all counts against the cap for the Giants this year, while his new team outters the $15m base.
