This would be a good analogy.... if in the case of restaurants it was the government harassing black people (or if it were the airlines anally probing passengers).

Should have used the bus analogy instead IMO.

The argument that body scans suck because they are a violation of your rights is ridiculous. If you don't want to be scanned then don't fly. Simple. We don't have a right do drive a car. Why would we have a right to get on an airplane without a security check? And LOL at the Lew Rockwell idiot claiming that body scans and pat downs are emotionally traumatic. Since when did we get so sensitive?
You don't have a right to play poker, so every time you rake a pot you need to pay me a $5 pot analysis fee. If you think this is stupid then just don't play poker. Simple. Don't be a ****ing namby pamby crybaby, either. Just ****ing pay up and shut up.

"This year alone, the use of advanced imaging technology has led to the detection of over 130 prohibited, illegal or dangerous items," TSA spokesman Greg Soule told FoxNews.com. The TSA would not disclose exactly what those items were, but it said they included weapons like ceramic knives and various drugs -- including a syringe filled with heroine hidden in a passenger’s underwear.
Nice spelling fail on "heroin," there, Fox. Anyway. 130 items, out of how many passengers searched? And only one of the things listed could have been used to take over a plane? Brool story co.

Sweet deal at only $60 million per item.

...and how many hundreds of thousands of hours wasted by people in these lines.

I've been pondering this way too much lately, but these stories I read from men, women, pilots, & parents really enrage me over and over again. Every god damned time a person is pulled from the line there should have to be documentation made stating exactly why they were pulled, by whom, and what the result was.

Of course they won't disclose it. It would subject them to the ridicule they deserve.

wow. Scary. Aaah, political discourse.

I think you guys are overlooking the fact that they have detected over 130 items, the actual number could be in the thousands or even millions.
11-18-2010 , 05:22 PM
SCORES, you might say!!!

Kind of like how when someone tells you they went to a top 45 university, what they really mean is they went to Harvard.

I'm not sure what you meant by this, but I was assuming the article had been in support of these new procedures as necessary because of the underwear bomb guy or w/e. Drawn out, if a terrorist had smuggled something through a bodily crevice, would the TSA find it appropriate to check these areas.

Apparently, airports have the option to ditch the TSA and go with a private DRO security company?

these firms would still be funded by the DHS and required to follow their protocol, so there wouldn't really be any change. i.e., they would have to use the body scannerz if they were available (I assume DHS decides this still) at the airport

the article is a strong critique of the TSAs policies. Your post, as I read it, seemed to suggest that the author should be blown up by terrorists... and then what would the people who oppose the new pat-downs say?
11-18-2010 , 07:36 PM
Are you against full body scanning because it is not an effective deterrent to terrorism?

Or are you against full body scanning because terrorism is not a threat and the scan is therefore not necessary?
