Which, in America, is white supremacy.

The cops may have gotten away with shooting a white male just the same, but this guy was shot because he was black.

You conveniently don't mention that the police officer was latino, not white.

Chinese officer murder black man - muh white supremacy!!

People of any race can work to keep black people down. Yes, including black people.

If you've been watching these cops get away with this stuff for years like I have, you can't help but think the same thing is going to happen with Trump. The American system ultimately favors power and conservatism--not conservatism in the sense of "less taxes," but in the sense of favoring the existing power structures and being biased against anything that would change or threaten those power structures.

Right. Black and latino people get all the same anti-black programming that white people get.

"Today, the Center estimates that there are between 5,000 and 8,000 Klan members, split among dozens of different - and often warring - organizations that use the Klan name."

"Pew Research Center estimates that there were about 3.3 million Muslims of all ages living in the United States in 2015."

Even if we assume only ONE percent of these Muslims are radical Islamists they outnumber the KKK by a lot.
Where did I say I'm scared? You are the one saying white supremacy isn't a problem. I'm flat out telling you that you are wrong. White supremacy, racism, and the KKK are alive and well in this country.

It's interesting you choose to ignore that, but bring up Muslims. Why would you do that? It wasn't even the part of the conversation.

And a major LOL @ thinking that 1% of Muslims in the US are terrorists. If there are 33,000 terrorists in the US, they sure are doing a ****ty job don't you think?

Again, you are wrong and have no idea what the **** you are talking about. Go crawl back in your little FOXhole and hide. Either that or educate yourself but we both know that's not going to happen.

But go on. Tell me more about how I'm scared.
06-17-2017 , 01:55 PM
Ya, by most expert opinion there are roughly 100k radicalized Muslims world wide. The vast majority are in the middle East and have zero shot of ever making it into the US.

Keep fear mongering though.
06-17-2017 , 02:04 PM
It really is amazing. Barely anyone bats an eye when they hear about a mass shooting but OMG, look at that Muslim over there! He's got a backpack. What if it's a bomb? Meanwhile, it's a Sikh Indian going to class.

The hispanic/latino world has its own history of racism and it goes back a long long ways. You shouldn't simplify it to anti-black programming.

Einbert wrote that the verdict proved that the country was screwed. He could have meant that it was screwed because jurors are willing to acquit a cop that they know is guilty or because they actually have an erroneous belief that cops in these situations are not guilty. I was trying to get einbert to clarify a post that could be taken in one of two ways. The same was true regarding follow up post that wasn't making its point clear. Making those points clear was my only goal as most people here realize.

As far as cops and black people are concerned my previously mentioned opinion is that there are many cops who, consciously or subconsciously, think that black lives matter less than white lives and thus need less of a reason to shoot them.

Another stated position I have is that Thomas Jefferson is scum and that the wrong side won the revolutionary war given the British were being truthful when they said they would free the slaves.

Don't think Trump agrees with that.
06-17-2017 , 02:12 PM
Like Trump knows who Thomas Jefferson is.
06-17-2017 , 02:15 PM
It could be either one, in fact I'd bet some jurors fall into the first category and some into the latter. Also, for some it is a subconscious bias that they're not aware of whereas for others it's something they're actively seeking (to bolster the white supremacist power structure).

But that's not the real reason we're screwed. We're screwed because we accept this verdict. We're screwed because we've accepted the War on Drugs for forty years. I try to be as optimistic as possible, but the most hopeful thing I can hold onto is the idea that one day we will NOT accept this, we will NOT be okay with it, and we will replace politicians and officials and attorneys general who allow these things to happen. Until we do, how can we get to the root problem in this society, which is that we treat powerful people completely differently than we treat vulnerable (usually that means poor or black) people?
06-17-2017 , 02:18 PM
And god forbid you're a black parent right now. What do you tell your kids after something like this? Knowing they could be murdered in cold blood, and the cop who does it will probably face no consequences whatsoever, and people will be okay with that. And they can follow every single instruction, they can do EVERYTHING right like Philando did, and they can still die that day for no reason at all. How do you think kids react to that message?
06-17-2017 , 02:29 PM
Yea that whole argument of "Do what the police tell you to do and you won't get shot!" goes out the window pretty damn quick when there's no consequences.

Very nicely written. Now would you mind doing me a favor by telling your nutty friends that there was nothing wrong with me soliciting an elaboration.

No one used the phrase "white supremacy".

Racist beliefs and actions towards African-Americans can come from anyone, including other African-Americans. Officers of many stripes have been involved in these incidents over the years, although the majority have been white.

Six members of the Presidential Advisory Commission on HIV AIDS just resigned. They cited administrative indifference to the disease as demonstrated by, amongst other things, a failure to staff key positions, proposed budget cuts, and the impact that ACHA would have on people with the disease.

Trump is still a thing and person who did not rent to black people contributing their oppression when it comes to upward mobility. His actions of the past are still are rippling through time even as some of his supporters criticize AA culture on not moving upward. And he did not even need to wear the goofy hood to do it.

I just got through a major blowout with my mom. It all started when the TV in the other room said Trump was under investigation for obstruction and she told me they need to stop criticizing him for every little thing he does. Some takeaways:

1) She flat out faulted me for "learning too much" and not living a happy-go-lucky life that ignores things we don't like to hear. "politics shouldn't affect you so much"* she said.

2) I was told that we need to "start ignoring a lot of what the president says and does" and "the bigger person knows when to let things go" after I pointed out to her that he's doing everything to himself and his WH staff. She also told me all the potential faults of Twitter and Trump's interviewers.

3) Trump has to resort to the tactics we're seeing in order to combat all the "mess left to him by Hillary and Obama" over the years.

4) He needs to be left alone to pursue his agenda. I asked her about healthcare and she said not that, but other items. I asked her about the budget, tax reform, infrastructure, and was told "Yes, exactly, like those policies. What's in them again?"

5) I told her how his actions as president are negatively affecting me now, on top of her too, and the large majority of the county. She said "sometimes we have to sacrifice to help others" from time to time. Yeah, the poor and middle class need to sacrifice their health and basic necessities so Trump can have more money and more power? "That's not happening though. Feel free to complain IF it does. Right now, he knows what he's doing and you're just being selfish."

*I tried to explain my increasing fear of how Trump has been taking the realm of politics and unpoliticizing it, to the point that it's greatly affecting everyday life. The two are becoming so incredibly intertwined by Trump's rhetoric that, when it comes to divisiveness between good fiends and family members, we ain't seen nothing yet.

It was a pretty big argument. At the end she said it was the worst visit we've had in a long time. I tried to tell her she's throwing her own family under the bus to defend values of a monster who shares none of the values she stood for over 75 years of Catholicism. Bottom line, I'm being "wholly disrespectful for calling the PRESIDENT a 'monster' or any other bad name."

I'm honestly not sure where really religious people stand when Trump is largely at odds with their long & deeply held religious beliefs. All I know is both of them come before her son. What then, does that make her?
I'm truly sorry that this has happened to you.

That is what I fully expect to happen if I ever get into an in-depth political discussion with my mother nowadays. In the past (prior to Trump inauguration), it would be that I pin her on something clearly wrong, prove it to be wrong, and her responding that it doesn't change her mind despite how utterly wrong she is.

Now I honestly don't know what to expect if I breach that topic ever again. Probably best just to bury that topic in the ground until she dies. My sisters have done that.

newt gingrich thinks someone is probably going to jail wrt the russian investigation, but he doesnt think trump himself.
