oh the humanity.
Yeah, not like there is any confusion out there on teh web. This site
http://www.automedia.com/Rearview_Ca...sm20091201rv/1
says this:
Quote:
In 2002, Greg Gulbransen accidentally backed his BMW X5 sport-utility vehicle over his two-year-old son, Cameron, killing him. The Long Island pediatrician helped create a political movement that resulted in a law that promises to help reduce similar tragedies. In 2008, the U.S. Congress passed, and President George W. Bush signed, the Cameron Gulbransen Kids Transportation Act. The law requires that almost all cars, pickups, and SUVs be equipped with devices to warn drivers of objects behind the vehicle
But when you look here,
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s110-694
Quote:
S. 694: Cameron Gulbransen Kids Transportation Safety Act of 2007
110th Congress: 2007-2008
A bill to direct the Secretary of Transportation to issue regulations to reduce the incidence of child injury and death occurring inside or outside of light motor vehicles, and for other purposes.
Sponsor: Sen. Hillary Clinton [D-NY]
This bill never became law. This bill was proposed in a previous session of Congress. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven't passed are cleared from the books. Members often reintroduce bills that did not come up for debate under a new number in the next session.
Then, there is the CNN Money headline from 2010, clearing things up further with the headline:
Autos may be required to have back-up cameras
Add the Jan 2011 link I provided earlier that stated it is still a
proposed mandate
None of which changes the fact that you seemed to think "I called for obama to do XXXXX" when I never called for him to do anything.
What I have learned in my interweb search is that some dip**** doctor, (probably on his cell phone) backed over his toddler and killed him, so in his mourning and guilt decided that govt involvement is needed to save others from his fate (or his son's fate)..... as we all know, when something is "for the children" it is gonna pass cause no one wants to be portryed as "a kid hater". Voila.... the KIDS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ACT is born at an estimated cost of 2 billion and expected to save about 100 lives. (we can revisit in 2015 to see if the bill saves lives as it's supposed to.)
I really wouldn't be shocked if this mandate actually costs more lives. Some bad drivers will hear the alarm or beep and freak out and hit the gas thinking they are hitting the brake, so instead of a soft glancing blow, they may provide the fatal curbstomp.
