If I were a leading member of the left, I would be pointing out at every opportunity that this was the alt-right exposing itself as a loose collection of nazis, white supremacists, and bigots, and that it's probably not a good idea to have one of them at the president's right hand. Bannon proudly made breitbart a home for the alt-right and now has the president's ear. It is certainly understandable then that this president was unable to denounce the alt-right.

It's time to put pressure on trump to fire Bannon and purge any other nazis, like his son, from the White House.

Miller is literally one of Spencer's college buddies and Gorka wore a Nazi medal to inauguration, it's important for people to understand that this **** isn't an oversight. It's intentional. The entire GOP is complicit.

Serious question: should I cancel my monthly ACLU donation?

Nah.

You should switch it to the National Lawyer's Guild

Free speech has consequences.

They should be able to march, free, in public, but... you have to accept society may not want to associate with a Nazi.

Switch back after they fire whoever was running the ACLU of Virginia's twitter if you want, but there needs to be a message sent.

All the ****ing #resistance donations and subscriptions get us the ACLU pearl clutching about antifa violence and the New York Times running an op-ed by ERICK ****ING ERICKSON today?

No. **** that. If it's about principles, have them.

I had an argument the other day about this.

The ACLU believes in free speech. I do too. Let the Nazi's march. As we saw up in the thread, there are consequences to marching in public with Nazis. You may be doxxed. Employers may not want you around anymore. Family may disown you.

Let them march, let the people reject it.

So the murderous Nazi used a Dodge Charger to extract revenge for the removal of a statue of General Lee. It must have been noticed by now that the terrible 80s tv show, The Dukes of Hazard, featured a Dodge Charger called "The General Lee." That is ****ed up.

But white supremacists, not social justice warriors, were the ones marching with citronella-filled tiki torches in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend.

That is why it is perplexing that President Trump condemned the “egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides — on many sides.” A White House spokesman followed this up saying, “The president was condemning hatred, bigotry and violence from all sources and all sides. There was violence between protesters and counter protesters today.”

Racial superiority is a repugnant idea and President Trump should condemn it by name. We should also note honestly that President Trump employs individuals who emboldened this movement. The president winked at and made kissy face with the alt-right as his advisers persuaded him it would be good politically. It is no coincidence that many of the men who marched in Charlottesville wore “Make America Great Again” hats. This president and his advisers made a nefarious evil feel comfortable coming out of the shadows.

This president is our president. He is the president of the United States. But as we become less united as a nation, he seems unwilling or unable to speak with conviction and moral clarity. We will all be worse off for it.
I find it hard to believe you disagree with Erick son of Erick here.

Embarrassed I didn't know about this group before but they look great, so I'll probably switch. Need to make sure I write a letter to the ACLU though.

Unless you convince me that 60 million Trump voters didn't vote for Trump, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that I know this. If we have an election where you vote for a guy who runs on a platform of giving everyone except Joe $50, and giving Joe a punch in the face, you don't get to absolve yourself of a punching Joe vote just because you wanted $50.

I was going to cut paste the whole thing, but pretty sure we're not allowed to do that. I posted the link tho. I just tried to post the most critical to Trump parts.

For those who aren't familiar, these are complementary, not competing, organizations. There is a large degree of overlapping membership.

The ACLU, which grew out IWW defense of the Palmer Raids, concerns itself with high-level lawyering long after the fact, primarily through amicus briefs on appeals.

The NLG are the legal "tip of the spear". These are the folks who set up and man hot-lines and provide the immediate legal support needed for those arrested on the streets, and these are the folks who put themselves in harm's way being Legal Observers.

As much as the ACLU needs $$$$, the NLG needs $$$$ more.
