Pavement would b a suitable comparison. Absolutely cant stand a track thats so speed favoring. (ya i know capobastone jus came from outa the clouds on the main track), but i think il puke if i have to watch another merry-go-round turf race again. Ughh

Travers:

#7 War Dancer. Like the pedigree, especially War Front. Going turf to dirt, but no reason to think he can't run on dirt, just hasn't yet. Really good win against a good field in the Virginia Derby at this distance last out. Give me 25-1 over the 3-1 that Orb, Verrazano and Palace Malice are getting.

good luck and enjoy the race!

Used longshots in the Kings Bishop, had Castobastone at 28/1, was alive to all 3 faves, Verezzano, Orb, and Palice malice

Lost the double obv but wanted to back it up so i boxed 2356. Hit the exacta Will take charge 9/1 over Moreno 32/1. Feel like I got ripped off with the exacta only paying $313. Should of payed $600 i think at least. Alot of people prob used Moreno with the way the track was favoring speed.

this group of 3 year olds has to be the worst in a number of years, as far as at classic distances go.

Is there a reason why the surface got so packed at Saratoga yesterday? Is that normal? Did they do something different, or is that just a normal occurrence in the summer months? Has it been super dry up there?

Im heading out West today ( figuratively ) and going to tackle the Pat O'Brien at Del Mar. Its got everything, even another failed 3 yr old. I think he is the favorite to boot, in a 7f race w older horses. Its a really hard race to breakdown pace wise, distance, class, and form even. Maybe a better than normal spot for exactas.

The TVG Pacific is going to be a race too.

Good luck to all today. I will postup later.

rafdogg and others - the 9th looked like a really hard race to cap and the 10th seemed to have some deadweight as maiden claimers often have - pros and cons of adding a horse or 2 to race 9 and taking away the bottom few in the tenth. not a criticism, just curious about EV of it all.

Del Mar 7th Pat O'Brien

Just 2 horses here. I'd rather concentrate the bet then spread it around. My first impression was that Golden Cents was dead money, just in the race because it came along. But i actually like the 7f for him, and keeping him away from bigger races. This is a good spot that fits the horse instead of the horse trying to fit the spot.

Wine Police looks so dangerous here. A 5 yr old who knows his business, well rested, and got bet last time, so I doubt its a fluke. He is training well obviously.

Thanks. It was down to the 9th or 10th to click the ALL button on. I don't play all that often but have noticed (with no data to prove, so could be completely wroing) that 6-7 furlong maiden races often give price. More so with first time starters. With a large field in the 10th (crazy what happend in that race btw!) I thought it would be a good chance for price.

Done pretending like I know what I'm talking about

I agree the 9th was tough. Wanted to pick more horses there because of the small difference in Prime Power between the highest and lowest ranked horse the race. I think it was less than 7 pts which I rarely see.

So the talking heads are saying that the PA Derby is most likely gonna decide the 3yo champion. My vote up too this point is a tie between Palice Malice & Orb, with the tiebreaker goin to Palice Malice. For him to literally jog in the Belmont, then his dominant win at the spa & his most recent start in the travers is his best performance yet imho. He went to his belly at the start & raced dead last for 3/4's of a mile on what was a speed favoring track & closed into moderately slow early fractions.
However, when i start to think about Will Take Charge, I think if he wins the PA Derby & then makes a start against elders in the BC & is competitive doing so, he will the be the eclipse winner. When u consider he and orb were making that run together in the derby side by side, & if TCI wouldnt have had to check hard cos of a tiring verrazono, he may have been the 1 wearing a blanket of roses that day, so if u factor that in & then his 2nd place to PM earlier this summer at the spa, & now his win in the travers, he has to b considered, especially if Orb, PM, or Verrazono show up at Parx & he beats them again on the square. I cant remember a year in which so much was on the line this late in the year for the 3yo c&g division. So my final vote as of today would b Palice Malice, but if 1 of 3 mentioned horses wins the PA Derby, i think they will win it. Whats yalls thoughts?

If we had a straw poll today, i would vote for Orb. The Breeders Cup looks like a good invitation for one of the contenders to take a shot at it. I'd be shipping to PA too if my horse needed the work, especially if they like to travel.

This one is for you race fans not too familiar with harness racing.

Captaintreacherous was voted Pacer of the Year after a campaign of eight wins in 10 races in 2012 as a 2-year-old.
The pacer is the first 2-year-old in 25 years to win the award after receiving 48 of 146 votes in balloting by the U.S. Harness Writers Association.

Check out the captain in action this year...great race.

Woodward S. (race 10 @ Saratoga)

5 Paynter
4 Flat Out
2 Successful Dan

Looks to me like Paynter controls the pace and gate to wires this thing. Not sure how much the sloppy track will matter, very little off track race experience in here.

Don't like how Ron the Greek or Alpha have run lately.

Enjoy the race. Good luck

The speed this year is incredible. They are going at it again tomorrow, the coming to Ohio for the Little Brown Jug. An event that is more fun than the Kentucky Derby though when it comes to the women you have to trade in the fancy hats for jean shorts!

Well since im up this damn early on sunday for football, lets wake up the horse fellas. ATS I don't remember the date but it was race#6 and Tiz A Ministers last race, the winner had a claim of foul against him from the 2nd place finisher ( Bejarano Flores) no action taken, but that looked to me what I consider hearding if I understand it correct, just wanted to see what you had to say on that subject.

Belmont and Churchill fall meets slower time of the year till BC.

What do you all say about drugs in races the usa has massive drug abuse causeing many sever falls? Read on nytimes sunday page, also how they the us can improve being hong kong and uk much above? I myself think it is the tax, and what about the old time betting ring were you bet your own horses?

Not sure how much im losing in translation here, but i think drugs are rampid in North American racing. They certainly add to the breakdowns for sure. Generally this doesnt happen with the trainer that administered the drugs, but usually when the horse gets claimed or goes to a new trainer is when the breakdowns happen bcos the horse is withdrawing & not getting those drugs to mask the pain anymore.
With all that being said, its alot easier to spot the jabbers(trainers that inject illegal race day drugs) these days & u jus have to b aware of it when they have a runner in a race ur betting. Only problem is, they dont jab every horse everytime, so u dont know for sure when to bet them. Imho no trainer that has more than a 100 starters/year should have a win % higher than 22%. Its impossible for a large outfit with that many starters /year to win higher than 25% without cheating. I do think that trainers with a limited amount of horses can train around 25-30% jus bcos they can spot there horses better & b more selective on which races to run in, where as a Steve Assmusen, or Scott Lake cant b that selective cos they have so many damn horses & they have to run them. For example, a guy like Johny Sheppard, or Charley Lopestri, those guys are horseman & i firmly believe they do things the right way & there able to win at high %'s bcos they spot well.
But ya drugs are def an attribute to spills in american racing & its def a problem. Only cure is a unified governing body for horse racing that oversee's all jurisdictions.

Hey honcho, watched the replay & that inncident was for 1st & 2nd allegedly squeezing out another runner in the far turn. So not a situation we would call herding.
This is a perfect example tho

What are some big races coming up on par with triple crown betting? Is it just the breeder's cup?
