With <32,000 lions in the wild I'm wondering what these management purposes actually are.
"Wild" is a pretty loose term. There are scores of private game reserves in SA that offer canned hunts. The private reserves need to be managed. The guide drives you out to the spot, tells you which lion to kill, and you kill it.

Actual current price list from one of these places:

Its all perfectly legal in SA.

The cow isn't nearly as endangered as a lion.

I think it would also be lame for people to pose with carcasses of dead cows acting like they did something special, but at least there would be some use for it afterwards.
None of this has anything to do with cowardice, which is apparently a really important factor in this to whoever wrote the Buzzfeed article and the people ITT complaining about how defenseless they are or bringing up "high powered rifle" like it matters what weapon she used or how much danger she was in.

So basically they need to be managed because they are bred to be managed.

Since my post above I've read they actually eat the lions though which is good.

That said, something about breeding a close to endangered species (in the wild) for the sole purpose of killing it seems bad. Also, I think we can all agree Michele Bachman's post about "stalking" the lion within 60 meters is pretty lol considering the buzzfeed article above.

All that said, I'm no bleeding heart and will probably eat a steak tonight.

Perhaps cowardly isn't the right word to describe her. She's more just a giant douchebag since she makes it seems like "stalking" a lion within 60 meters is some feat of courage when the buzzfeed article shows that really it isn't that impressive.

She killed 1 lion. Would people be as upset if she killed 0.999(repeating) lions?

Seems good to me. If the wild population of lions collapses we'll have those lions around still to repopulate from. Seems way better than extinction.

What the market will bear.

I know a guy that goes to Africa for 6 weeks every year to hunt lions and **** with a 50 cal. Spends ****loads of money on garbage. If you've got it and don't want it, someone will take it. Killing has the highest price tag, no?
