I call it both , more so hero , but it's really a regional thing , I guess since I bought the sandwich at whitehouse , sub would be the correct term.

At least we can all agree that people who say Hoagie are dangerous sociopaths.

I was curious what he meant by hero. I don't know if I've ever heard someone call a sub a hero.

*I think it should piss us off that people hate Scully.

I haven't listened to him in a couple months, but he was still great earlier this season.

*Ruling, Rapini?

Bumping your head is a dull pain, accidentally kicking or stepping on something is much worse. Although, the worst I've ever bumped my head on was a cabinet or run into a wall.

I've known a couple people who think that ice cream is better after it's been thawed and refrozen, and when they buy ice cream that's exactly what they'll do before eating it. Shouldn't piss me off because they aren't doing it to my ice cream, but it's so incredibly wrong it pisses me off.

That there are "dog people" who don't like cats.

I have no idea if this is actually true, but I have always thought that "hero" comes from "gyro."

Scully remains awesome. He's almost as good as chick Hearn was in his last years. Both have unique signature styles and awesome voices. They are my second and third favorite announcers, right after Howard Cosell, who was easily the best of all time. Bob Costas is fourth.

I was so lucky to grow up before Chick got sick and then later got hurt. I have some leeway with Vin but if anyone dislikes Chick Hearn we are going to go outside the thread and fight, dust ourselves off and comeback inside with a clearer understanding.

If you actually have time to spend with an animal dogs are clearly superior, but if you aren't home that often cats may be an acceptable alternative. Having said that, cats are for ****.

This has always been my assumption of the etymology as well. In Greek it's pronounced something like "yeero," but there's a touch of aspiration in the y-sound that makes it seem to have a bit of h in it.

The name gyro comes from the spinning skewer (like gyroscope), BTW.

The fact that if the etymology is correct, "heroes" are almost entirely unlike gyros pisses me off, though it probably shouldn't.

I was coming back to my seats at during halftime and ran in to Hearn at staples. I told him that I remembered him all the way back to his bowling for dollars broadcast days and he laughed; "you and I might be the only two people in the arena who remember that." He was entirely genuine and approachable.

I think this is true of bologna as well. Was pronounced like pepperoni and salami from non-Italians and it stuck.

Started thinking about it after I heard Vin Scully reading a grocery list and he pronounced it accurately (I assume).

This one will be rapini approved.

When someone is using a popular piece of equiptment at the gym and I am waiting to use it for some reason it pisses me off if they are using it wrong. Why should I care as long as they are taking the same amount of time?
