I shrugged animal-namer off when I one day wordlessly closed my office door in his face when he paid me a visit. He told his supervisor this, and she responded with something like, “sounds like you should leave him alone then.”

I felt bad for having been such a dick in the direct aftermath of closing the door, but I don’t think my progression with him was altogether unreasonable.

I almost always leave my office unlocked, but had temporarily locked it this time to change shirts and then had forgotten and left it locked. So when I heard a knock and said "come in," and it was followed by a failed attempt to open my door, I had to manually go up to the door to open it. Which left me in prime position to simply sigh heavily, shake my head, and close it.

The real takeaway is that this occurrence probably singlehandedly ensured my ongoing compliance with the cardinal rule of being a respectable person: that you must be at least 90% as much of a dick in person as you are online.

That would have been pretty difficult to pull off since his supervisor is on my peer level and not organizationally above me, though I guess if she was a lot less sane she could have escalated it instead of basically telling him it's a him problem, and then following up with me later to say "I hope he's not bothering you anymore."

Apparently he was drunk-texting her at 7 p.m. on a recent Friday night.

Should have been sent home at 8am the following Monday.

lol 7pm pretty early to be drunk-texting. Sounds like this guy has a drinking problem.

The way the drunk-texting anecdote came out:
Her: "He was drunk-texting me on Friday at about 7 p.m."
Me: "What? Did he tell you he was drunk?"
Her: "It was super obvious."

And then we moved on in the convo. Only after work that day did I realize that I should have pressed for details, so the next day...

Me: "Hey wait, so I need to hear more about this drunk-texting. He didn't say he was drunk? Was he just making a bunch of typos?"
Her: "No, he said he was drinking. And then he just kept sending me texts unanswered about how he was hitting on his waitress."
Me: "Ah ****, that must have been fun for her."
Her: "Yeah. And then he started sending self-pity texts about how he was going home alone. And then he texted me like 12 gifs in a row."

And then she brought up her screen and actually quickly scrolled through and showed me the gifs. Story checked out.

The 7 p.m. thing may have an explanation that is also rooted in weirdness on his part. She has to approve his time, and noticed repeated instances of him only working 2-3 hours on Fridays. The first time it happened, she just shrugged and assumed there was a good reason. When it came up again, she asked, "Oh hey, what's up with these short Fridays?" And he matter-of-factly said, "Oh yeah, I've just decided to make that my work schedule, the office is flexible." She said, "Uhh, well you definitely have to actually put in a request to be given a non-traditional work schedule if you want to do that all the time, Friday is a normal work day unless you have unique circumstances." And then he did formally request that. And then HR said no. And then apparently he gave her the silent treatment for like a week because she made him ask HR and it led to his request being denied.

Again we're talking about someone who is intern-adjacent in the office who has been with us for...two months maybe? The office should just cut ties, but I think she's being overly nice and not proactively offering bad feedback. Honestly though, now that he's not bothering me, I want him around just for the comedy of getting to hear the stories.

It's been on my list for a long time, but sitcoms are always bottom of the list for me.

I have 17 days of my Max trial left and have pretty much watched everything I wanted to. I do still have a few things on my list, but nothing I can't wait on or haven't seen before. I quit the Hobbit movies after I learned they split The Hobbit into 3 movies, lol. Maybe I'll watch them if I have time.

Have you seen The Flash movie? It was actually really ****ing good. And not just good for a superhero movie, but for any type of movie.
