Now this is what I want from a documentary: fantastic information on a subject I had no idea I was fascinated by.

Helvetica is about the 50 year-old type face by the same name. It travels the world talking with different designers who either love it or hate, but they admit that it is the most ubiquitous type face ever created.

The filmmaker talks about its invention during the great Swiss design period of the 60s...it's shot in an entertaining, stylish and carefully-framed manner, as befits its subject matter.

Who knew a movie about something so..mundane...could be so entertaining?

Definite recommend. A-
I just watched this. While it's interesting, a lot of what was said was repeated. It's pretty eye opening how widespread the font is.

The Cove was good. Would recommend for sure. It kind of cracks me up how the Japanese don't completely prevent visitors from getting near the cove, but once they do their strategy is to be annoying until the visitors go away.

A recommendation on Helvetica is interesting. It's in my queue and I've had it on in the background before but didn't really engage. Primarily I think of it as the font that Microsoft stole, changed slightly, renamed "Arial", and now claims as its own, although I don't know if that's addressed. Either way it's certainly a lot more highbrow than if they did a doc on Comic Sans, which would presumably feature interviews with Dan Gilbert and a bunch of HR droolers.

Now that all 3 of the trilogy that started with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is on IW has anyone watched them all? I remember the 1st one getting mixed reviews ITT but was wondering if it is worth investing ~ 5 hours + for the entire trilogy.

I really enjoyed the first two, probably watching the third later tonight. Will post a brief review.

First one was decent, just felt like it could've been a half hour shorter. Wasn't really shocked by the ending either for some reason and I haven't been compelled to start up the second one. I'd say watch the first one though, it's decent enough.

I went to the third one during the film festival here and it's pretty good even though I had to have my neighbor explain the pre-story crap to me. It was a lot more closing the story up as opposed to action stuff.

I liked them...they're not great cinema but they are decent thrillers.

Agree with this assessment, still worth watching though if you liked the first two.

Just watched it last night for first time since it came out. It is great to hear various versions of the songs on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot while their in the loft. If you like that album (everyone does) it is a must watch.

I think it's an amazing movie, but I enjoy it as much as I appreciated it. Watch, The Hospital, if you can. Same writer, less bombastic style, and similar style of commentary but regarding the health-care field. The cool thing about Network, though, is it's over the top and prophetic at the same time, which is just sad.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned in this thread or not, but Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (prequel to Spartacus: Blood & Sand) is currently airing on Starz and new episodes are available to watch every Friday morning on WI, even before they air on TV. 2 of the 6 episodes have aired thus far. Blood & Sand is also there as well.

As previously discussed, do not give up on the first season before episode 4 or 5. It takes a dramatic upturn in quality.

They did air the day of for Blood & Sand, but this season they don't go up till Saturday at 12:01am. At least that has been my experience.

bascially none of them? restrepo and exit through the gift shop are available but successful movies don't get put on watch instantly within a year of being released in theaters

Well, it would have to based on the first two. It was like a parody of 300. Which, was already pretty much a parody of the genre.

Al - I'm with Triumph; Network now is pretty dated and clunky. But I'd go further and say I don't even like it anymore. I used to love it, then I saw it again and was meh, then I saw it again and thought it was pretty lame. But I mean it's NETWORK, it's a huge movie and something that needs to be seen, what with the iconic "mad as hell not gonna take it anymore" scene.

I find Network very prescient and relative to today's television. Not clunky at all.
