I'm glad to see Good Morning Vietnam. It's top 3 Robin Williams movies for me.

Sounds about right, but goddammit those wine fruits were driven as hell, and that's something I can really appreciate.

I thought Californication was pretty good throughout. A few of the middle seasons get repetitive, but it picks back up later on. Well worth watching the whole thing IMO.

A single man is amazing. Colin Firth should've got an Oscar.

I maybe in the minority here but does any ever wish that Netflix would have their own fan forum. As much as I enjoy reading these suggestions I would like to see suggestions from a more diverse background then the ones found on a gambling forum.

A good movie recommendation is a good movie recommendation. I've personally watched some really good movies based on this thread that I probably would not have given a second look....however there are a zillion netflix recommendation forums out there...Reddit might be a good place to look too.

For those in Canada, or with access to Netflix Canada... Id like to recommend one of my favorites, A Separation. It's an Iranian foreign film, actually won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film (also 99% on Rotten Tomatoes). If you don't mind subtitles, definitely a must watch.

2p2 is pretty diverse, except for almost no women.

I do think people here have pretty good artistic taste in general, from what I've seen.

Not oscar-worthy but any movie with the baddest gun on the planet (AA-12 with exploding rounds) needs to win some type of award.

The Unknown Known

Rumsfeld version of The Fog of War. Not quite as good as TFoW, but very good nonetheless. I give Morris a lot of credit for not doing what 99% of his colleagues would have done, try to steer the viewer into agreeing with him with cheap tactics (like showing dead kids, or coffins, or legless vets, etc, etc.). Instead he just let the man tell his story and leaves it up to us. Say what you will about Rumsfeld, but he's an interesting man and very politically cunning, at least pre 9-11.

"The Past", a French movie by the same director released earlier this year, is also on Netflix Canada. It's an excellent family drama that manages to be thoroughly absorbing despite not possessing any of the quirkiness that always seems to be present in American movies of the same genre. It's a good reminder that compelling cinema can be created from real people in real situations.

Samsara - visually stunning, interesting, plotless (like Koyaanisqatsi)
Cinema Paradiso - my favorite movie, good payoff at end, but it is a foreign language film with subtitles so can't be watched casually.

So, can I watch just season 5 of The Shield and know what's going on good enough?

Not to the degree that you'd fully appreciate it imo, but you wouldn't be totally lost either.

Just watched something is wrong with aunt Dianne

Doc where lady gets in accident and kills 8 people, found to be drunk, husband convinced she not drunk

Anyone else think this pretty average to bad?

Eh, I actually thought it was pretty interesting, but maybe if I watched it again I'd agree.

Dead Man Down

Definitely some plot holes and didn't love the ending but it was much better than expected, worth a watch, I give it a solid B.

I saw this when it aired on HBO so forgive me if my details are a bit off.

Spoiler:
If you think the husband (and other friends/family members I believe) were lying about her not being a drinker, and I can understand that, then this is just a typical case of a drunk ahole killing a bunch of people on the road. Nothing really interesting at all about that other than the gross body count and them being mostly kids.

If these claims are mostly true, then it just doesn't add up that a non-drinker would get out of her mind wasted first thing in the morning to drive a minivan full of kids 100 miles down country roads. Wasn't she a top executive at a large company? That leads me to believe she was pretty sharp in general. I just can't imagine a sharp, non drinker, doing what she did. Even if she was a secret drunk you'd think she would have noticed that she was freaking the kids TF out, to the point they're making emergency calls about her insane driving. If I'm so drunk as to not notice a van full of kids crying and screaming and calling 9-11 and begging for their lives I would have put the van into a tree way before she wrecked.

Of course I have no idea what really happened, I don't even have a theory.

I thought the story itself was average, but the way they told it through the documentary was very well done. They created enough mystery to make it worthwhile. 7.5/10.
