I suspect the books are really good and well thought out, and therefore make a strong narrative for TV. However, I'd bet I can pick out the bits that are shoehorned in by the showrunners (e.g., the bar scene language).
The bar scene is literally lifted directly from the novel. So you lose your bet.
From where I've lived, particularly Manhattan, men and women absolutely behave like that [and London's probably not very different]. Saying men don't behave like....whatever way you disapproved of when trying to pick up single women drinking alone in a bar, politely, is simply untrue.
I mean, yeah, women probably they don't exactly say 'Don't say anything and you can come home with me after 2 drinks' but they certainly behave in ways awfully similar at times. There's a reason Louisa wasn't drinking at home.
