Speaking of kids' school, I just got this email from my kids' school district:

Quote:
Subject: Situation at XYZ School this morning

Dear Parents,

Late this morning, a man was spotted on XYZ property taking photographs. He was asked to leave the property. He left and then returned, at which point the building was put on lockdown. At that point, he was arrested by our School Resource Officer John Smith.

We are incredibly thankful for Officer Smith's actions and for the support of the local Police Department. Thank you to the XYZ staff members who first spotted this individual for their vigilance.

Students are safe and we are continuing with our school day.
Sincerely,
City Schools
(XYZ is not my kids' school; it's just in their district.) Is this an overreaction (building put in lockdown)? Reading the email, I feel like it was an overreaction. At the same time, if something terrible had happened, I can see being furious if protective steps hadn't been taken.

The email had to be sent. Who knows what rumors would have started if they stayed silent. But a lockdown seems a bit much for what is basically a trespasser that the school cop was able to handle.

What a crazy world that precautions like that are necessary.

That fact that the dude was asked to leave, left, and then returned is enough to have him detained.

I completely agree.

Just more a comment that it's unfortunate that's something that even has to be considered.

Any suggestions of restaurants that I should try in Indianapolis?

Suicide car-bomber at an elementary school? Don't say that we weren't warned.

If you're downtown I would say try the Slippery Noodle Inn. Yats is a good place with decent prices if you like Cajun/Creole food. There's multiple locations in the Indy area. Can't go wrong with the brisket and burnt ends at City Butcher & BBQ. Over on Sunshine, check out Tortilleria Perches for the best Mexican in Springfield. For sandwiches, I'd prob go with the reuben at Sisters in Thyme - and be sure to get a cinnamon roll for dessert! And of course grab a Full Ride burger and fries at Grad School. Prime rib sandwich and shrimp cocktail from Harry and Izzy's downtown is also solid.

"Vegitable" makes an appearance, that was pretty good.

depends on what type of food you are looking for and where you are staying tbh.

Steakhouse - St. Elmos, hands down. This is downtown.

Their sister restaurant, Harry & Izzy's, is one of my favorite restaurants in town for either lunch or dinner. Prime rib sandwich FTW. Downtown and north side locations.

Breakfast/Brunch - Milktooth in fountain square. SE side of town.

Wings/Sandwiches/Awesome beer selection - Ale emporium on the northeast side of town. Get the Hermanaki wings.

Thanks! I'll be in downtown most of the day next Friday , and driving into SW Indianapolis during the week to eat dinner every night.

For the best soul food in Indy, you must hit the eagle for their fried chicken with spicy honey or pork sandwich, and the sides - collard greens, Mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole all so great. Their grilled cheese is great too.

For Mexican it's a tough choice between those tacos and amazing margs at festiva or the more casual vibe at Nada - both are great. Livery for more modern/hipster take on Mexican - mmm those empanadas, ceviche, and churros there!

Want something really unique? Bluebeard is amazing. Omg the bread with bacon fat and cheddar butter, garlic and oil, and anchovy butter! Everything on the menu is great.

Oh, don't forget to stop by union 50 to try the duck hash and duck fat fries!

all solid choices. Love Nada and bluebeard.

Tinker street is another great restaurant, same owners as Festiva.

Also, Longbranch at 22nd and Delaware is a great new asian fusion place. They poached the chef and head bartender from Bluebeard. Mashcraft brewery has a tap room next door to it thats nice. Doesn't hurt that i designed both spaces and the building their in!

Had a different kind of lockdown at my keed's school the other day and it definitely rustles my jimmies:

During a class, they lock down the entire school with kids in classrooms and a bunch of police and K-9 then do a sweep of the school lockers and all the cars in the lot. They end up arresting/suspending multiple students whose cars had trace amounts of weed and vapes with residue in them.

What the **** even is that? USA#1 is so ****ing embarrassing sometimes.

This happened at my high school on a monthly basis. To be fair, dumb kids always brought drugs to school.

They'll be coming for the condoms next.

Bode,

I almost rec'd tinker street, but I think of it as more of a date place, and I believe mlylt is gonna be there solo for work. Plus they have all those amazing desserts, and I know she's trying to avoid those.
03-09-2017 , 03:57 PM
Lol' ed at the copy and paste, but those are some legit recs. Bluebeard really was amazing when I went there although it sounds like they changed chefs. Also, as I told villian last time, try Shapiro's deli, it's an incredible kosher style deli in the downtown area.

Samuri,

No copy and paste here bro, I can assure you of that.

fair enough. she would be offered some delicious deserts and it would be rude to turn them down.

you've obv spent a fair amount of time in Indy?

Actually I'm not entirely sure if it was copy/pasted or if Diablo actually knows the food scene here. Obviously I am bad at internetting.
