Yeah +1 for the slider, I've dropped my phone a couple of times and the slider protected it very well.

Opera for iPhone? Can't wait to try this out. Unveils on the 15th.

Also, just found out about the newest theme from ToyVan, the creator of Glass Orb Color and all of the variants of it.

http://modmyi.com/forums/new-skins-t...me-toyvan.html

It's released on Rock, not Cydia yet. Costs $1.99, but is an all-purpose theme. Custome everything, auto-creates icons so there are no random stock icons, and is just really smooth in its design. Def recommend.

Yeah, I posted that link a few weeks ago as something to check out. I haven't downloaded it yet though. But it does have a nice look. I just set up Ovation Z yesterday, so I am going to keep that for a few weeks I think. I really feel like if they are going to charge for the theme, then they should release the PSDs. Or at least be very receptive to requests. But 1.99 is pretty reasonable, it's gonna be a cold day in hell before I pay 4.99 for a theme though.
02-11-2010 , 01:39 PM
Ahh I must have overlooked the theme when you posted it. What do the PSDs do? Is that so you can edit the theme yourself?

Yeah, its the Photoshop files with the various elements still in layers. It makes it a lot easier to just customize a certain thing. Really, only the Icon PSD is required though. Even with the new Auto Icon you need the Icon PSD because Jailbreak App Icons don't auto create.

Are there any recommended ways to jailbreak a 3GS on 3.1.3 yet? The only reason I ask is that I still have mine jailbroken on 3.0.1 and was thinking of finally upgrading to at least 3.1.2 this weekend, but if there's anything for 3.1.3, I figure I'd just do that while I'm at it. Otherwise, am I going to have any issues going to 3.1.2 and using blackrain now that the new version is out?

Going to be really lame when Apple denies it from the app store.

Apple stopped signing 3.1.2. So from what I've read, I'm not sure if you can upgrade to that or not.

Mac Forums has a thread at So You "Accidentally" Upgraded to 3.1.3. Now what? They believe that, at this time, unless you already had 3.1.2 and saved it to Saurik's server, you can't jaillbreak from 3.1.3. However, some have reported success with the link I posted earlier.

It seems you ought to stick with what you have if you wish to keep your jailbreak.

In Cydia it says "This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS: 3.0, 3.1, 3.1.2". Is that not enough? I admit I haven't paid much attention to what's going on with jailbreaking since I did it last, but I thought I read that after saving that I could always add Saurik's server to my hosts file and get it signed from there. I guess the safe thing would be to stay where I'm at, but there are a couple apps I wanted that require 3.1.

You were wise to save those. I had assumed that you didn't have 3.1.2 saved because you hadn't upgraded. It sounds like you're probably fine, but I'm definitely not the expert. If I were you'd I'd go through the thread I linked and would proceed with caution.

Good luck!

Cool, thanks. I'll definitely read up before I go and do anything crazy.

Going overseas for 3 weeks, is there any point to bring an iphone with me out of the country or will it just end up being extremely expensive? I won't make calls but want to be able to use the internet just in case (are there any plans that would allow me to do that pretty cheap?)

Thanks

Sure, but you'll probably have to unlock your phone and buy a local pay as you go sim card. I would not suggest using data roaming unless you feel like racking up a thousand dollar phone bill. More info here:

Yes. Jailbreak with blackra1n, install cydia, add blackra1n.com as a repo in cydia. Search for blacksn0w. Download. Run.

so can someone give me the skinny on the battle of iPhone vs the Droid...I'm with Verizon now and am debating whether to wait and pray that an iPhone comes to Verizon or say screw it and get a Droid...both seem sweet but figured this was the place to be

So I'm deep into a donation session of online gaming, and my Internet connection goes kaputz. At least I'm not in an mtt or sng. So I'm gonna fork over the necessary dough to be able to tether from my iPhone, in case I do have this problem in the future while in a tournament.

TheEngineer - you previously posted regarding this, but tbh it was a bit too complex a procedure for me. Also, I'm on a mac. Does anyone out there have experience with a simple cydia app which would help me out with this situation?

I have pretty reliable edge service at home. Moving to the boonies ftl, by the way. I spent about 30 minutes pulling ticks off my dogs earlier tonight. I miss the city sometimes.
02-13-2010 , 01:57 AM
Yellow, more simple solutions involve using a native package (no 3rd party app) which lets you enable tethering via bluetooth or usb. Google "enable internet tethering redmond pie" and it will come up.

Another program which I've been using lately is MiWi which, with a simple tap, turns the phone into a router so that other mobile devices can connect to it. Just set up a simple password and you're good to go.
02-13-2010 , 02:18 AM
Suigin,

Great info, thanks! How has MiWi worked for you? Have you been able to have multiple devices connected to your router?

And when you say mobile devices, does that mean a laptop? And from the name, I am thinking it is a wifi signal, but after reading into your post, it sounds like it might be a physical connection. Can you confirm?
02-13-2010 , 04:13 AM
Okay, all. I am posting on my mac using the info provided by Suigin above.

First follow the directions on this link:

http://www.redmondpie.com/enable-tet...rmware-eqw846/

Pretty straightforward. Note: for Mac OSX users only. And by pretty straightforward, I mean I had a friend remote logmein to do the wacky terminal and open SSH stuff. But I'm sure the savvy OOTers can do it themselves.

Now, in the first link, update 1 applied to me. However, do NOT go to that link. Instead, go to http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-iphone...il-vvm-ows754/ and read Step 3. Install that and you should be good to go. At least that's how it worked for me.

TY all for your help. I hope this post is helpful to other noobs.
02-13-2010 , 04:16 AM
And Suigin, I was meaning to ask, why do you have both options on your phone? Additional flexibility?

NEED HELP

iPhone stopped booting up. It would show apple logo and frozen spinning wheel overlayed on it.

I am trying to restore to 3.1.2 and re-jailbreak but I am getting "iphone is not eligible for requested build".

This is on a mac w/ latest version of itunes.

Any help?

Yellow, I wasn't very big on tethering and to be honest, I still don't use it that much. That's why I settled for the easy to enable guide from redmone pie I noted above. However, I heard lots of good things about MiWi and it actually turns the phone into a router, something the first solution doesn't do. In fact, MiWi can also use bluetooth/usb like the first method, but also the router ability, which is kind of cool and just adds more flexibility.

MiWi costs $$, but it's pretty good. It's occasionally buggy, such as not being able to turn off tethering (so I usually need to reboot the program or kill the app via processes in SBSettings), but I think it's overall pretty solid.
