Lololol at bringing up something from a time when 95% of the US population had no idea what covid was.

I'm assuming you've locked yourself in your home the past 18 months and haven't left and risked your life? Otherwise, what's your point? That your it's only safe to go out and public when you do it?

People are going to restaurants. People are going to Vegas. People are flying. People are going to sporting events. Where is your cut off as to what's acceptable?

People have been cruising from non US ports for months. How many have been significantly affected by covid? Or doesn't that fit your narrative?

My cutoff is somewhere north of going on a 10-day cruise with shared cabin ventilation without being vaccinated. Is that a clear enough answer for you?

When was the last time someone got legionnaires from a plane or sporting event? Airlines have doubled their pre-covid air exchange to 8 times/hour. What have cruise ships done? Wipe stuff down more?

People on Diamond Princess caught covid well after they had been quarantined to their rooms. I can't imagine you could completely re-engineer the ventilation system. But if so then I'd be impressed. Cruise passengers sure don't seem to care about ventilation one way or the other.

There are a lot of people boarding cruise ships well after covid on this list, and some of them even dying: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-...n_cruise_ships

Coral Princess

News reports in early April 2020 indicated that Coral Princess, with 1,020 passengers and 878 crew, with some suffering flu-like symptoms, was hoping to be allowed to dock at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale to allow passengers to disembark. A news item on 2 April 2020 stated that "Passengers have been confined to their rooms...when the company noticed a higher than normal number of flu-like cases on board". Reports then specified that "out of 13 passengers and crew tested for COVID-19 on board the Coral Princess, 12 were positive." Officials in Broward County, Florida, said that a plan was not yet in place to handle the situation.[319][320]

Coral Princess was diverted and finally docked at the Port of Miami on the afternoon of 4 April with its over 1,000 passengers and 878 crew members. A CNN report that evening indicated that two passengers had died and some others were ill, including the 12 that had tested positive for COVID-19. Those who were not ill were to disembark when flights to their destinations were available; this was expected to take some days.[321] A subsequent news report later that evening stated that four passengers were scheduled to be taken to Florida hospitals and added that 67 persons would not be allowed to disembark.[322]

On 6 April, the death of a third passenger was announced.[323] By that afternoon, 684 passengers had disembarked, those who needed medical care had been taken from the vessel and 274 were still on the Coral Princess. Charter flights had departed to Canada, California, Australia and the United Kingdom; others were expected to leave Florida the next day.[324]

The vessel left Port Miami on 10 April 2020 with its crew and 13 international passengers who were unable to return to their home countries due to travel restrictions. No destination was revealed but it appeared that the ship would initially remain at sea for a period of quarantine.[325]

Seriously? You researched cruises and that's the best you came up with? Cruises have been held to a higher standard by the CDC than just about anyone, which is why it's taken so long to get going again.

I'll ask again...what does a cruise in April 2020 have to do with a cruise in July of 2021 that has a minimum of 95% passengers vaccinated? If you can get vaccinated and still not be willing to have a good time with another group of vaccinated people, that's a you problem and you should probably talk to somebody about that.

We're going on a 4 day cruise with a balcony room. We're fully vaccinated. A minimum of 95% of other people on the ship will also be vaccinated. That's a higher percentage than I expect from my local grocery store or Walmart. At what point is it ok to take the bubble down from around me? When will suzzer hoist the "it's safe to leave your house" flag?

Go on your cruise like who cares what you do? Also that quote above you posted has zero basis in logic. I'm not into free basing heroin so that doesn't make it less safe?

Maybe you'll run intio suzzer on your ship 'o fun

Cruise ships were giant Petri dishes before COVID.

But if you are vaccinated and want to go on a cruise, I wouldn’t worry about COVID.

You are all over the place. The point that you originally spazzed out about was whether or not people are willing to risk dying to go on cruises. People still going on cruises in April 2020 and dying proves that point.

I'm happy for you, you will probably be fine. I assume you're vaccinated. No need to take my statement about why I like to invest in cruise lines personally.

I bought a little after they bottomed out. Holding until somewhere between pre-covid high and all time high, probably closer to pre-covid high. I think there will be a lot of pent-up demand as soon as they can really start rolling.

I have no interest in going on a cruise myself, but I think ec_outlaw should definitely go if cruises are something that interests him. He is vaccinated and it sounds like the company is enforcing vaccinations requirements as much as they can, and companies that make the effort to do this should be supported.

On the other hand, Double Down absolutely should not go to the wedding. This actual risk to his child is minuscule. But it sound like attending that wedding would essentially be tacitly supporting anti-vaxxers, and this is something that reasonable people should not participate in if there is any chance to avoid it.

So she and most of the Indonesians have been vaccinated?

Again, like I said before, it has nothing to do with our baby being at a wedding. It's that this will be the only opportunity for a small handful of relatives who live in that area to meet him. As far as the wedding itself, it's important for my wife and me to be there because she is very close to that family. It's her brother, his wife, and their two daughters, one of whom is the bride. She's close enough with them that she's been asked to participate in the wedding.
I guess if some of these relatives are actually important to you, I would drive there and only attend the outdoor event(s). Let them see the baby, hold it up like a god for them to worship, but don't let them hold the baby. Then you can take care of the baby back at the hotel and your wife can socialize as she sees fit.

Double, I am a dad too. My wife and I are attending two weddings this summer, but I would not bring either of my young kids even if they were invited. Not sure how to quantify the risk but I know we wouldn't even consider it.

Bring (or hire) a babysitter and have them stay in the hotel room with the baby during the wedding would be an okay compromise. Let any (vaccinated) person come visit them during your trip. Back before covid we made anyone who wanted to hold our baby wash their hands first. Now the rule is get the (free, easily accessible) vaccine first or don't see them until things are better.

If it was all of us or none, that choice would also be a slam dunk no show for us

You can't show up to an event, knowing hardly anyone will be vaccinated, and start making up your own rules. You'll be laughed out of the building. If you're concerned about your child, which you should be, stay home. No half measures. These people are unvaccinated for a reason...they don't think covid is a real concern and don't care about other people. That's not going to change because you show up with a baby.

not thinking covid is real does not equal not caring about other people. you can totally care about other people, but still think covid is not real

idiocy and ignorance are not the same as a lack of compassion
