WHO, Univ of Minnesota's CIDRAP, Univ of Washington's IHME, Imperial College London, and the John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center are my daily "go to" sites.

The CDC has been handcuffed. You don't want to rely on policy makers and scientists who have been stifled and can't act with precision, speed, and forthrightness.

Then why is the WHO on your list?

Will check the other ones out, but I've only gone to WHO, not CDC. Just stating what I heard today.

WHO has also been terrible fwiw

CDC's obvious wrongness makes sense when you (person who understands what's going on) point out that the person speaking is incorrect but they (your boss, colleague, internet poster) can just quote the CDC's incorrect statements and declare chessmate.

Dont know, that it can spread from droplets that come out the mouth just by breathing and speaking etc was one of the first established and wide spread facts about the disease. Obviously if you cough there are more droplets.

Question - at what point would you take the extra precautions, if any?

If you were high risk or you were caring for an elderly person or child that was high risk, would you then be more cautious?

How about bubonic plague?

How do you think SARS and MERS came about?

No? I think people have used disease intentionally to cause harm on others before though, and that states are capable of cover ups. It's crazy, history. I know

Regarding the bubonic plague, the Mongols literally launched dead plague bodies into sieged villages.

Spanish Flu's deadliness had a lot to do with it's mobility. Since it broke out during the war it became a virus where it's deadliest strains actually got transported and spread easily due to front lines and medics

I'm sorry but anyone who posts this meme unironically is in fact a ****ing idiot. We live in a giant anthill with 6.5 billion other people. What you do affects me and everyone else around you.

Your selfish, childlike worldview basically amounts to "You don't know me. I do what I want."

Takeaways: Nuke the South.

On a more serious note, there are some things that are counterintuitive -- like large swaths of the midwest stopping travel early when you'd expect that would never stop in many counties given long travel distances to get to basic services like groceries. NY metro indicated as stopped relatively early, though there's the opposite situation re travel distances and who knows how the population traveling through NY is accounted for, etc
Was this calculated from cell phone data?

And more rural small towns never require traveling more than 2 miles to get groceries or get gas, it is all in a small downtown area. And I assume this is averaged per person, so large metro areas where people travel 80+ miles roundtrip to work daily see huge reductions once those jobs are furloughed or work from home, where the rural farmer makes no adjustments.

If you say so. I'd say it is you who is the idiot with the childlike worldview, but whatever.

Did you miss the part where I said that I am taking the normal necessary precautions? I am just not going to the extreme, which I'm pretty sure is my right. You seem upset, try to have a great day!

Not everyone has unlimited time, energy, and intelligence to gather the news and come to an independent conclusion on what the best choices they could make would be to limit the harm to themselves and to others.

Also, people are selfish *******s.

Predict you'll like this Doc more and more as the video goes on. Talking about Vitamin D helping control inflammation over-response leading to need of ventilator and eventual organ death, which is what is killing Covid-19 sufferers. I'm no doc, he is. I'm sure there are other opinions. I was low in spite of being in the sun quite a bit, and my Doc put me on D supplement a while back so it struck a chord with me.

+infinity

i hope when the dust settles on all of this we can reflect how various cultures reacted and how they fared and hopefully accept & incorporate the asian culture of public shaming people who act selfishly

asians are way more social, active, etc and usually live in an apartment the size of your living room - they rarely are at home for that reason, always eating out, walking in the countless parks, etc, etc

they sucked it up and stayed in their cramped apartments and that was way more of a hardship than any american would have being asked to do the same

there was nothing about asian culture that promoted staying indoors, they saw the greater good and did it despite that it's a much greater lifestyle change and much worse conditions to stay indoors due to not having much space

in fact, one of the areas that did really well in China during this period was makers of cooking products because many young chinese literally eat out every meal and didn't even have a hot plate in their apartment before this - same with videos teaching you how to cook basic things skyrocketed in views

that's how social they are, many didn't even have the capabilities to cook food in their own home prior to the lockin

obviously i'm making broad generalizations and yadda yadda yadda but the point is that while Asians did that, we literally have americans taking more walks than they did pre-corona because now they have more free time and they justify it with nonsense about government control and sunshine disinfectant - fact is you're being a selfish dick and it's that exact behavior which is why tens of thousands of americans are going to continue dying and fearing for their lives while Asians go back to a somewhat normal life because they put up with staying in their apartment

social distancing is a bs loophole, just stay inside your house and don't leave unless it's an emergency - it's really that simple and there are literally billions of people who've already beaten it that way and gave us the playbook for free

frankly, i can't stop you from going out and you may legitimately not view it as a problem, but however you justify it, i'll never not view the people who went out for leisure purposes during this time as selfish douchebags even when this is long over, there's enough people doing that where it's nothing to draw a line in the sand over, but i'm always going to look down upon those people

I don't care what you're actually doing. That meme is too stupid for words and you should feel bad for posting it.

In almost all places cops are deliberately not enforcing anything other than banning large gatherings and closing off places like beaches and other gathering spots.

Our govt is going out of their way to say "We're not going to force you to stay inside, but here's the information on why we should all socially distance. Please make good choices."

Your meme is for people who still think an 1800 person church gathering is somehow ok.
