After sucking for a couple weeks and missing last week, came back for the mid season position round and shot a 609 with the team winning all three.
Fun times!

by the way my ball hits the pins? how it reacts on the lanes?

ive thrown plenty of new balls with a few different drilling and i can tell you that balls make a huge difference. i think i would average 10 pins higher at my tough house if i had a new ball every week. lol

Another struggle this week on tuesday, still slumping. I don't need more new balls yet though, lol. Threw it like crap. Too many weak shots. 213, 196, 207. Left seven 10-pins and four 7-pins. Very annoying... At least my spare percentage is still good. That's the only positive I have in the last few weeks of bowling under average. Gonna miss the playoffs for sure now though. Team still in last place, lol.

Forgot to post last couple of bowling scores. Let's see, unspeakably god-awful last Thursday on sport. I don't even want to put a number on it.

617 this past Tuesday on house. Two doubles and one triple for the entire night. Spare practice imo.

207, 246, 202 for 655 tonight on sport. Only won the second game, as I ran head on into my buddy who tore it up with 708.

you'd also bowl ten pins higher if you didn't chop that 6-10 last week. doesn't matter how many balls you buy, if you have room to improve in other areas (we all do) you can't even talk about "the perfect ball" for those conditions. it's absurd.

194-234-232 660 tonight. Bowled so much worse than that in actuality. Made 2 baby splits, a 2-4-6-10 and a 2-4-7-10. Just a giant struggle all around.

Might be time for a new ball

its not absurd at all. new balls carry better, read the lanes better and just hook more. missing a 6 10 was my fault, i throw a spare ball at the 6 10.

are you trying to tell me that if you had 1 of every new ball that you wouldnt find the 1 thats right for you? you think you have that ball now?

im not saying every new ball is great but the ones that match up to your game will really help you out.

226 227 192 = 645 @ Classic last night. Avg 195 there.

The shot broke down at the end. I should have switched balls rather than moving back & forth trying for a shot that wasn't there anymore (used a dull Ebonite Challenge all night - should have tried the pearl Nano the last game imo), but didnt consider it until it was too late.

anyone else upset that the Japan Cup telecast is broken up into 2 different parts? The telecast used to be: show highlights of the first few matches, partial coverage of the middle matches, then the final two matches were full coverage.

pipes, look at it this way. everything you say about a new ball... carries better. hooks more. hits harder. reads better... any one of those things can also be achieved by throwing the ball differently. sure, buying new balls might help you score better. but if your goal is to be a really great bowler then you should be doing the things that will help you score better for free, because eventually, no matter how good your ball, if you can't make shots, you can't score. on a really tough pattern you need not only a great ball, but great skill as well. just doesn't make sense to me to talk about needing a 'perfect" ball when you haven't (and by "you" i mean "none of us") even begun to approach your maximum skill.

again, if you are bowling on lots of different shots, sport bowling, etc, then it makes sense to have a lot of different balls. i'm not arguing that. you're just taking the idea to an absurd level.

Why does buying a few more balls have to mean that you're not working on getting better and learning to throw the ball differently?

Someone who likes to play straighter might often get in a situation where a ball change isn't gonna help nearly as much as learning to moving left and get around the ball more. I agree with that, but why can't they work on learning to move left, get around the ball more AND change balls? How do we know when we have achieved maximum skill and should now start looking into more different balls? Do we have to average 240 first? 250? 260?

I agree that the most important part of getting better is to learn to throw the ball differently and become comfortable playing any part of the lane, but along the way you also need to learn how different equipment can help as well. If you want to get better and advance as much as possible you need to learn as much as you can about all aspects of the game, not just whatever part you're most interested in.

I didn't get to bowl last weekend, but had a couple of good days this week. On Friday I played 8 games and averaged 171, played 7 games yesterday and shot 174. I had one tough game yesterday in which I only shot 176, but picked up a 5-7 and two 6-10's.

Next Saturday we're going to try playing on two lanes like a league rotation, should be interesting.

I'll concede the point that having the right bowling ball will help, such that maybe buying a new ball might be taking a large step in the right direction.

However, buying a new bowling ball isn't a long term solution to bowling better. In the end, no matter how many brand new bowling balls you have, you are still limited by your (lack of) skill.

The vast majority of average league bowlers do not practice outside of the 5 or 10 minutes they get before league. Even that is rather worthless for them, as their usually not even ready to start when the lanes turn on!

The pro-shop has an incentive to drill you up a brand new ball. They do not have an incentive to see you practice.

I bowled 300 the first game Thursday and then had one double in the next 2 games. Oops

Isn't that what they did on Sunday? I'm not sure because I DVRd it, but haven't watched it yet (for some reason, they relegate bowling to airing against the NFL), but the schedule makes it seem like the Japan Cup was only aired yesterday.

And, of course, going to the PBA website to confirm the schedule spoiled the Japan Cup for me.

There's just one airing. It was called the "Round 1" Japan Cup because the sponsor is Round 1 Entertainment. Next week's telecast, "PBA League Round 1" will have multiple rounds on separate telecasts and has nothing to do with the Japan Cup sponsor. Way to confuse everyone PBA.

811 tonight. 278-300-233. 740 and 811 since switching back to the best ball I have ever had. My first half of the year was awful, should have never let that ball roll around in my truck for so long lol.

RRR,

not sure if you heard, but bowling balls with more than 40 games on them are pretty much worthless. you should probably throw that thing out and get a new ball, you would have shot 900.

PS what ball?

It is an original gamebreaker. It has been hot water bathed probably 10 times. There have been nights that I haved bowled close to 40 games with it.

246 266 232 for 744. Pretty sure they didn't oil after yesterday's youth tournament, thus I moved inside and let it rip.
