128gb iphone I believe it's intention is for the itunes addict with eleventy billion songs downloaded to put them all onto their device so they can take instagram selfies and hashtag the song they're listening to while waiting in the checkout line at Whole Foods.

At one time I was following the upward trend in storage capacity and thought I could never have less than 32gb storage. Then I realized how much space was used on garbage and now an 8gb storage is enough for me. My music player is 32gb and I use about 12gb of that.

I pretty much just use my phone as a phone though, no streaming movies or TV, that's what my tablet is for.

I use a chunk of storage on my phone. I primarily use it for downloaded videos which I then watch while on planes, trains and automobiles.

I'm not very familiar with smart phones, but it seems it seems like I've not heard many good things about the quality of HTC hardware, any thoughts on that switch?

I need to replace my Nexus 7, so the Nexus 9 looks interesting as I'd like my tablet a bit bigger, but I'm worried about the move away from Asus and the excellent build quality of the 7. Also, how do the specs on the 9 compare to the new NVIDIA Shield 8" tablet? Reviews of the latter seem to be pretty favorable without even factoring in the game streaming abilities from a PC, and it's clocking in at $100 less than the Nexus 9 along with a built-in SD card reader.

HTC is one of the best hardware makers on the planet, easily top three with Motorola and Apple.

The nexus 9 is a solid step up from everything except the galaxy tab s, between the two is pretty subjective which is better.

I'm thinking about switching to windows. How long do you think it'll be before windows apps start to catch up to android/apple in diversity?

I like the way windows 10 is heading, and am quite embedded in the ecosystem, so I think it's going to be worth a try.

Yep. HTC did take a nosedive a few years back but they have very much turned things around.

Nvidia's SHIELD tablet isn't anything to be scoffed at, and it is getting Lollipop apparently, but I imagine the screen on the Nexus 9 will be noticeably nicer (and obviously an inch bigger).

Slightly off topic but - in thinking about getting the Nexus 9, I was interested to see what Apple did with the iPad Mini 3 today.

Well, they have added TouchiD and left it at that essentially; same A7 processor as the old one. So, even tho the now-reduced-price iPad Mini w/ Retina (now just the iPad Mini 2) is going to be a good buy at £239, spec/hardware-wise the Nexus 9 is now comfortably beating it at probably around £279 (my rough guess).

Probably not soon enough to see your next phone honestly. When I was thinking about it two years ago everyone was saying the same things - "not as many but they're catching up"..

Not saying its not worth a try if you want to - I think they have mostly all the same apps or at least equivalents that normal people would want (no poker bravo but you can pin the website to your homescreen or whatever). Only reason I didn't try it was 'cause Verizon dragged their feet getting a flagship Nokia.

Does windows phone still force you to use the goofy colour squares metro thing or can you use launchers?

Fwiw given their market positioning they will likely never catch iOS and Android's app stores. There just aren't enough users to justify it for most devs.

Lol, with the exchange rate and VAT on top it comes in at about £300. I'd estimate a price around £350-375 once you include other costs like import duties.

FTR 239 is a good price for the mini 2, it's basically the default recommendation for a cheap high quality tablet if they are discontinuing the nexus 7 (which I suspect they won't).

It'll be out not long after the nexus devices get it. Samsung has been building their update for months alongside the Google team.

I would comfortably bet even money less than four weeks after the nexus 7 gets it your GTS8 will get it.

I was using the Verizon messaging app on my tablet for texting but people kept telling me they were getting double texts from me sometimes hours after the first one was sent. Obviously when I opened my tablet, the Verizon app would resend any texts I had sent from my phone earlier that day.

So I deleted the Verizon app but I'd really like to be able to text from my tablet. Any other app recommendations or solutions to the double texting problem?

Thanks.

Yeah, I know it's £300 converted plus VAT. 279 is just wishful thinking, especially as the keyboard case will probably run about 70-90 (?). I didn't think they'd want to price it above the Mini 3 though, which starts at 319.

We'll see soon anyway!

On the topic of updates, I have an ASUS tf700t tablet that is still running 4.2, I cannot find any information about upcoming android OS updates for it either.

I was looking at the unlocking route and running cyanogenmod 11 on it but the unlocking process is PITA and hasn't worked for me at all. Anyone know if ASUS plans to release OS updates at all?

£319 makes sense of that is what the iPad comes in for. I suspect they are taking a hit to profitability to complete at that price with effectively a year old device (a fingerprint reader hardly makes it new IMO).

It does, but I was more bothered by the jump to 32GB. Now all on Play Store at the same price. I agree about TouchID not constituting an upgrade, and so do a lot of Apple fans it seems.

I've decided to wait a while. I want my next tablet to be a medium term laptop replacement, so I won't rush in with pre order anyway.

£110 for the keyboard cover is pretty eesh.

I'm surprised they removed the nexus 7,I expected to see a price reduction keeping it around to keep a foothold in the small tablet market.

with the size of the nexus 6 and trend towards larger phones, not enough differentiation to the nexus 7
