Just got lollipop on my gs5. It's later than I'd like but relatively fast so swings and roundabouts.

It's gonna take a while to get used to the new notification shade and one of the first things I did is make chrome act normal instead of putting tabs in the app switcher. Other than changing the color palette in settings and the toggles it feels identical to 4.4.2

I always figured you to be a custom ROM/rooted kind of guy from your posting history. You run straight stock?

OMG thank you. I never even thought to see if it was an option to switch back

Since kit kat with stuff like tasker, various plug ins like autovoice, launchers like Action 3 and the built in always listening voice control in the Google search app I've seen less and less reason to.

For what I do with my devices I get basically the same experience from stock unrooted GS5 as my cyanogenmod running rooted note 2. Many of the coolest rooted things from two years ago are just available as standard apps that require at most admin access now.

Rooting old phones that lack proper updates makes sense. New one are not benefiting as much and you risk bricks and loss of warranty and alot of time wasted I'm.

Re: Phil/Eddie,

To me a third party kernel is the number 1 reason to root. The improved performance and battery on my n6 is huge. But yeah, I get that it's not really as necessary with new phones.

As far as bricks, I don't want to start a debate about it, but if you can read and follow directions, it's just incomprehensible to me how a nexus can be bricked. Don't have allot of experience with Samsung etc.

Galaxy s2 galaxy note 1 and i dont remember which nexus had some ****ty eemc that had a small % chance to brick when you flashed it properly and it took months to figure why. Just an example of problem that can happen. You are allways taking a risk when flashing whether it's human mistake bugs or material failing. No matter what the risk is real and it can cost decent money or alot of time. I ve flashed a ton because I m a nerd switching rom on a weekly basis and reward was more the action than the benefit from it.

Nexus 6 might be an exception since alot of early review were supper bad and flashing/rooting can fix some huge flaws.

I guess. In my experience the risk comes from people flashing firmware that is made for a different phone.

But I get your point and I'm not interested in having a bricking debate. I've read enough of it on XDA.

On another note, thanks again to whoever recommended pushbullet awhile back... Think it was Phil.

Verizon S5 received Lollipop 5.0 today. Installed without problems. So far, so good. It seems faster to load pages and open apps.

Anyone have a oneplus one invite to share?

I find I mainly use twitter as a news source. Is there any apps that will just take all of the links from my twitter feed and present them in some nice format?

You don't need an invite anymore if you buy it on a Tuesday.

LG G3 Chrome Swiftkey

anyone else having problems typing in FB on the site, not using the app? It starts inserting characters inside of its own sentences and I can't delete the last character, just super glitchy.

Pretty well bricked my tablet.

Is there a good android tablet currently on the market that will cure my disdain after that asus transformer was such a dud?

I'm leaning towards an ipad air 2 at the moment, only because I had such a poor experience with the transformer.

I have read a lot of general tablet reviews recently but nothing is swaying me other than the Xerpia line but they seem pricey to me.

I was in a similar situation, but generally liked my Android tablet. However, I got the iPad Air 2 after reading this review and comparison of a bunch of different tablets and have found it to be absolutely unreservedly outstanding.

After having such an outstanding user experience with it, I find it unlikely to ever return to an Android tablet unless they do something pretty amazing. The fingerprint unlock is the greatest thing ever.

Thanks, Josem.

I read a "Best android tablets of 2015" review that basically said Ipad Air 2 is the best tablet available and the top 3 in this review are the best in the android market but still don't quite match the ipad.

I will get an ipad air 2 when I return to civilization this weekend.

Read a few articles on Oneplus and OxygenOS plans. Oneplus is parting ways with Cyanogen. OxygenOS will be closed source. Oneplus one users will have the option to upgrade to CM12 or OxygenOS. Oneplus two will be released in Q2 or Q3 of this year.

Anyone have issues with S5 wifi? Mine constantly drops and reacquires my home wifi signal, and does it elsewhere too so I don't think it's a router issue though I have reset that to no avail.

I've looked everywhere for a solution and haven't seen anything that works. I just factory reset my phone because the Lollipop upgrade destroyed my battery life and it still does it. I have always scan for a network on, allow wifi to stay on during sleep on and smart network switch off.

Any suggestions?
