Well it sounds like you had a bad experience with the support system, sorry about that. However, as a general philosophical argument, that's a comment on the employee, not the system.

I've heard about great experiences with Pixel support, and I've heard about terrible experiences with people at the Apple store. (FYI, I've communicated with Google support many times and have never had their emails go to my spam).

So yes, Apple MAY have better support overall if their employees are more helpful, but that doesn't mean that their "in-store system" is "better". If you catch my drift.

Sorry about your specific issue again though. Seems like it's not working the way you want.

If you bring it back to Verizon you are going to get a used warranty replacement. **** that.

Meh, I love Android but I got my mom an iPhone specifically so she could take it to the store if she had any issues. Sure, Apple support isn't perfect, but it's far superior to whatever Android/Google have. When she was looking for a new laptop, I tried to get her on a Mac for the same reason, but she insisted on sticking with Windows and now I serve as her long distance tech support. Oh well...

KB4Z - what version OS are you on? I was also having trouble with Ambient Display (though not the same issue you're having) but the latest update fixed all my issues. I'm on 7.1.1, Build number NMF26O.

Yeah. Not able to test your situation, though, since my company requires having a lock screen.

no worries, but I think you could test it. as long as you have the screen to go to sleep quicker (say 15 seconds, under Settings > Display) than you have the lock set (say 1 minute) then you can see if Ambient Display works while the screen is sleeping but the phone isn't yet locked

Zod,

I have a pixel and I just tried it. Only the led light turns on. Nothing else happens

thanks. plenty of other people say the same.

now I'm curious if that is a bug or the way it's supposed to work?

Anyone have a S6 family (S6, Edge, +) spare phone for sale? I'm looking for ~$100, and cracked screens are okay as long as touch still works.

MY USB-C BROTHERS

On the 6p if I use a USB-a to usbc cable I get slow charge, even with a fancy Anker powerline+ cable and charging port. It needs to be usb-c to usb-c to get "charging rapidly"

Is this the same for all usb-c devices? Anyone know?

hrrrm I just switched to using a USB-C with the existing 3.0 charger I had and I'm pretty sure it's fast charging my Pixel

though I'm not positive bc my Turbo 2 made a note of telling me when it was turbo charging (vs regular charging) and my Pixel doesn't. I guess I could pay attention how quickly it's charging

(now I don't know what to do with the massive collection of micro-usb cables I have...I guess my Kindle will never go wanting for a cable)

I believe the Pixel does say when it's "charging rapidly" at the bottom of the screen.

Kneel confirming that the Pixel is capturing the clueless iPhone user market.

<3

Edit so this is a Google thing? Lame. Maybe I'll just sell off my usb-c-a cables or give em away.

I have a HTC 10 connected to an old aukey quick charge 2.0 usb-a and usb-c adapter, it charges quickly

ha, I did find the "charging" vs "charging rapidly", but 100% this is how it works:

-it's not shown when the screen is "awake" which is weird/not the way the Droid Turbo 2 works so that's one reason why I didn't see it
- it only appears sometimes! for instance I have one charger that does charge the phone, however the "charging" message never comes on at all

and to the original question about this, I do have a Qualcomm 3.0 charger which only "charges" not "charged rapidly" the pixel. weird.

and after much back and forth Google has confirmed to me that Ambient Display not working when the screen is sleeping + the phone is unlocked is intended functionality, not a bug

which again is weird and disappointing for both my common use cases and also bc whoever was on the Google Pixel support chat swore to me up and down that my phone was buggy and took me through hours of support to try and "fix" it

(it also runs contrary to the ideas Google has introduced about not locking your phone at all under certain use cases (while charging, etc)

Locking is really a non issue, i used to wake up phone by double tapping , and i never do it anymore since i have fingerprint sensor. if you just had set up a lock screen and got used to waking it up with your finger like everybody you would have gotten used to it in a few hours instead of wasting hours trying to fix your made up problem and would have a safer use of your phone.
On another note i ve seen some article about google confessing to people that they should look for other phones than pixel because they dont think they can fix the audio bugs and will simply refund them.

"just get used to doing it this slightly more inconvenient way" - wow the Pixel really is the new iPhone

sitting on my nightstand at home, plugged in, there is zero reason for my phone to be locked. Google agrees, since they specifically have built in functionality to allow this!

sitting at work with my phone on my desk, while it's charging, again I don't want my phone locked. it's odd that people who really enjoy the miliseconds of time saved going from PIN/Pattern to fingerprint don't understand how sometimes the miliseconds used on lifting and fingerprint unlocking are annoying

(and I'm hardly alone here, everybody who comes from Motorola sees how much better Active Display is vs Ambient Display. The Motorola way just works regardless of what else you have going on)

Can't you use smart lock to fix this issue? Ambient display still works for me when my phone is unlocked at home (because it's added as a trusted place).

Has anyone had trouble with the instagram app? The app crashes everytime I sign in. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail, then I created a new account and it works fine. I'm definitely not banned, any idea what the culprit could be?

My Droid turbo just updated from android 5.1 to 6.0

Is there any way to numerically display the battery info on the time/date widget? It used to do so before the update, but now I cant even find an option for it. The battery ring is a pain to see on quick glance and blends into my preferred background

You can change the ring color by tapping the ring.

I've changed the color of it in my pocket a couple times already.

Edit: Battery % is still there...

I got the upgrade on the Droid Turbo and now my notification and ringtone volumes are tied together. Is there a way to separate them? I'd like my ringtone to be loud with my notification low.
