That's what I was thinking. It seems like it could be a little confusing to some people.

Yea this was the question last year, they went 4->5->6->? and the Nexus 7 was already out as a tablet. So they released new versions of both the 5 and the 6 calling them 5X and 6P. I guess they could either....

1) Continue that (something like 5X2 or 5Y etc.)
2) Just skip ahead to whatever number phone they're on (Windows 7 style) and say Nexus 9 or 10 or something
3) ... or just start a new naming scheme altogether?

Man, I'm almost excited to see what they do for the name moreso than the phones since I probably won't buy a new phone this year.

As long as they don't drop the Nexus brand I'm okay.

Fingerprint on back will be the worst. I frequently double tap my phone to turn it on when it's sitting on a desk or table.

I always assumed it was based on the size (screen + bezel, approximately). The Nexus 9 is already a bigger tablet version of the Nexus 7. Either way, it's definitely not a naming system based on update number. The Nexus 5 and 6 were competing phones and were size-based.

Anyway, I've been dying to pull the trigger on a 6p for ages, but my biggest concern is how to handle customer service. I'm nervous about buying a phone all by itself (albeit with protection services) and wonder what happens if something goes wrong? Will Verizon help or do I have to mail it back to Google to get it checked out? One of the most valuable aspects of a carrier is tech support.

What phone do you have currently, G3 or G4? Or were you able to get tap to wake with a custom ROM?

Definitely the biggest con with the fingerprint on the back. I haven't ever tried a phone with it on the front. So I can't compare the advantages of faster turning on/unlocking when on desk vs in hand (but I'm guessing for me personally I appreciate the latter). At least with a pattern it's still pretty quick for me.

Looks like the G5 has the fingerprint on the back, but I'm sure will retain all the tapping stuff - seems like the best of both worlds?

Interesting, I never thought of it explicitly as phone size (except I obviously recognized the 5 and 6 correlations). Looking back though, I'm still thinking it's (or at least was) the iteration number. The phones went:

1) Nexus One
2) Nexus S
3) Galaxy Nexus
4) Nexus 4 (4.7")
5) Nexus 5 (5ish)
6) Nexus 6 (6ish)
7) Nexus 5X (5ish)
7) Nexus 6P (6ish)

So obviously they had to switch it up since they couldn't use Nexus 7, plus it seems like a smart move these days to release both normal + big phones (e.g. Samsung, Apple). The correlation between # and size is there though, which is kinda cool, although the n4 is closer to 5", but o well lol.

Also I love the 6P, but got no advice on your situation unfortunately.

Any Tasker wizards here? I bought it awhile ago but have never needed to use it.

When I have mobile hotspot running and my phone rings, the hotspot cuts out until I manually decline the call. Is there a way to make it so that the phone automatically declines all calls while mobile hotspot is running?

I used to use it... I never found anything I needed to do (including reading texts out loud if connected to my car's bluetooth) to be really any more complicated than just searching around for a min or two to find the right thing to plug in.

I don't use it anymore and don't feel like downloading, but I would think you should be able to combine:
*receive call* + *hotspot on* ---> decline call

I'd be somewhat surprised if it's not that simple... but please post the answer if/when you figure it out!

Does the 6p have the auto-on screen? Where if you move your hand above the screen the infrared sensors will turn on the unlock screen and show you the time + any notifications?
It's really simple but it has proven to be one of the most useful features on the Turbo.
Just wondering if that's a standard feature on all newer Android based phones, or just Motorola.

As far as I can tell there isn't a way to set a profile based on the state of the hotspot. But you can make a task to turn it on /off. So one solution would be to create a shortcut or toggle that a) turns hotspot on and b) declines calls. You would use this task rather than turning on your hotspot directly in the settings.

Then again, there's probably some way to check the hotspot state that I'm not able to figure out.

There aren't any infrared sensors so it does not have that feature. I came from a Moto X 2014 and while I completely agree that feature is super useful, I adjusted to not having it pretty quickly. The 6p does have the android ambient mode where if you move the phone it will show notifications, etc.

I'm grunching from here, so sorry if this has been covered, but like, what?

I can't imagine a time where I'm using a monitor and I'd care about this. Why would I want to send power to a monitor from, say, a laptop? If I'm somewhere with a monitor, there's an outlet, and I'd rather power the monitor from there instead of my laptop. If this is a "solution" for desktops, same answer. Video and audio over one cable makes a lot more sense, but HDMI/etc already cover this.

I was thinking the same thing but figured I just misunderstood what he meant by "both power and data" with a single cable.
So.... why is this better than hmdi?

I loved the m8 til battery problems killed it.

Upgraded to the m9 but no big change outside of the camera, imo.

I was surprised how well it records video and audio at concerts.

And I'm partial to having expandable memory,I don't always have great internet service to access the cloud, which isn't the phones fault.

But the price isn't the greatest,I got my m8 at half price, new due to the release of the m9

Paid full price for the m9,curious what price point the m10 is going to be.

Is there any phone out there in the near future that will be worth upgrading over the Note 4.

It's got a great screen, good resolution, good size, a removable battery, a microsd slot, wacom stylus, 3gb ram. Tremendous XDA rom community, it works with a Samsung/Oculus VR. Battery life is amazing with some roms. I'm not seeing anything in the horizon that will replace it for me. But I've had it at least a year and want something slightly thinner but with all or most of those features.

Add task -> net -> WiFi tether? It says that action is unavailable on my device. I'm on an unrooted Xperia z3.

I got a call blocker app in the meantime. Just annoying cause I know I'll forget to turn it on/off.

I think he gives enough information. Why not just have the task print out (alert->flash) the variable for now, turn your hotspot on/off to see what the numbers mean, and then put your final configuration in?

So if I'm getting the S7 preorder but don't use a watch and think the VR thing is cool but won't use it more than once since I'm a normal adult I should just pick the watch, right? Feel like that has more room for growth, or more resale value (though with them flooding out doesn't seem like much). Watching POV porn on the VR headset would get old quick I think...

Seeing as how the Samsung S7 is going to be released in 2 weeks, I think the chances of some prices coming down very soon is pretty reasonable. I can't tell if you're saying you need a new phone today as a stopgap until new phones are out, or if you're looking to buy a flagship but don't have to have it today. Almost all the flagships for the next generation were just announced this week, some with release dates.
