hmm... Seems strange and bad to me that either the hospital or your employer has the right to take a random drug test without your permission. It also seems wrong that if the hospital does it they can share the information. wtf is going on or am I all wet on this?

I'm sure TBob is right, but I'm with Bona here. Pretty sure this is not only not standard but is actually illegal over here, as it should be.

Sharing with employer should be illegal.

Can't really be upset that he hospital drug tests before handing out pain medicine to avoid adverse reactions.

oh i disagree with it, trust me. but it is standard. say you had a little something in your system. BAM...employer says you get no money for bills and BAM...youre fired. but the accident obviously can still be completely legit that someone not testing positive couldve encountered just as easily

I own a precision metal fabrication company. We drug test every applicant. We random 30% employees every year. All injuries get tested at time of clinic/hospital treatment. All totally legal.

Beat?: I passed all over the past 30 years

Let us be the judge of that...

Yeah , injuries on the job get drug tested as standard here. Same with say a forklift accident with property damage and no injuries. I have never failed a drug test either.

I've never had a drugs test but feel like I would do really well in one.

I'm sure it is legal in the US, it is illegal here in the land of the still partially free I think.

This kind of reminds me of the time I worked with some guys from EDS (Ross Perot's old data services company) on a government contract. EDS inserted a morality clause in their employment contract as standard US policy. They tried to invoke it in the UK against a guy that they wanted to fire because it was alleged that he had cheated on his wife ...

They absolutely couldn't understand when they were basically told to GTFO, as this was apparently SOP stateside.

lol wtf at morality clause and firing people for private life choices.

Yeah, but "freedom" in this context means "freedom for corporations" not workers.

The place I'm currently at has a policy that employees must be fit for work. Part of the policy means they can and do conduct random testing that include breath testing, a drug test and Peeing in a cup. It's a zero tolerance approach, if you aren't completely clean then youll likely be at least severely disciplined or just told you can come back tomorrow and pick up a box with all your personal items in it.

Basically I can't even take a chance and have a hangover at work....

What kind of music? I saw you asked early if anyone likes jazz. I do. Jazz drummer here, though not that great.

I gig in different small ensemble jazz groups, a more pop/rockish cover band, as well as an original funk/hip hop group that gigs locally but is in a rebuilding stage. Solo I play acoustic songwriter stuff with a jazz/funk tinge to it. I'm a guitarist mostly and excel in improvisation and finger picking. I also enjoy long walks on the beach.

How long have you played?
