I don't play HU but I would assume for the same reasons I leave a 6max PLO table if 2 or 3 of the others (regs or fish) are short stacked.

I mean it certainly lower your winrate (EV: AA vs fullstacked > AA vs shortstacked).
But bumhunters just wait for a fish without playing, when they find one they refuse to play just because he's short.

It makes no sense to me since their hourly rate would go down this way since they get less action.

Because they're bad at poker and can't adapt to different circumstances

Question: How does play money skill relate to 5 NL/micro stakes skill?

I commonly see stories that begin, "I was beating play money for a few weeks, so I started playing micro stakes and built my bank roll". Well I couldn't beat micro stakes, so I went to play money. For a few weeks now I've been beating (dominating, honestly) play money, moving up accordingly, and multiplied my play money stack by 500x. But I still can't consistently beat 5 NL.

Obviously play money is a joke and I often get a laugh at the stupid calls people make, but then I'm surprised at how tough penny games are for me. I mean how serious can those players be in comparison? Would love any input.

Thanks

So if I keep playing until I can beat 1m/2m I'd be well prepared for most micro stakes?

Edit: I'd still start at 5NL (low as it goes on my site) but I just wanna hear it to confirm. I know according to what you said the answer would be yes.

well, like i said, 2nl is comparable to that

i saw crazy plays even in the highest playmoney games, but you will see those at nl2 too

if you are new and dont want to risk your money i can see practicing in playmoney, but if you already grasp the basics i might suggest starting in real money

Got it, thanks a lot.

Side note: I'm not going to be one to start believing conspiracies just because I'm bad at Poker or on a down swing, but it's insane how good I run with play money. I river huge hands and catch pieces of so many flops. Then I get on real money and get dealt garbage for hours, if I do hit a monster they hit a bigger one (and I don't even think know they hit it). It racks my brain sometimes.

Anyways, going to try to be more active around 2+2 so thanks again

(I'm guessing that means do you see why)

My post-flop play has a major leak somewhere. I tend to lose really big pots, and win small ones, on any street, while never winning big pots. This has been happening for awhile and I wish I had done more analysis right when I started, but I'm sure I'll be back to post some histories or stats as soon as I have it.

This makes me think of another question, should you always start with limit? It seems like that would solve the problem I previously described. I've always played NLHE.

Also, thoughts on SNGs? I play pretty well in tournaments but I've read that they're controversial about being good to build bankroll.

Learn to use your fold button.

Learn how to value bet.

Pick one game and stay with it. Limit is completely different from full ring. Cash games are completely different from SNGs. You might as well ask if you should try playing hockey because you want to play for your national soccer team.

What is the tactic in beating online cash games? Waiting for big hands? Or taking down uncontested pots?

When is it worth signing up to a training site? Want to sign up to speed up my progression but am only playing (winning at 8bb/100) at 5NL now and from what I've heard the gameplay doesn't change much until about 25nl?

you were only asking about tracking software last month, so i guess you have no clue about your actual winrate and are just guessing. that said, if gameplay doesn't change until 25nl, crush 5nl for a bit more until you're rolled for 10nl, then crush 10nl until the end of time?

5nl being 5 cents/10 cents?? What would be a respective bankroll for these limits?

It's my winrate after 30k hands - who knows what it will be at 200k. Anyway, I wouldn't be playing poker if 10nl was as high as I was aiming to go.

5NL has a $.05 big blind. Please read through the FAQ.

In these push fold charts, do we consider effective stacks?
http://www.pushfoldcharts.com/headsup/

like if even if I have 100+bb but my opponent only has 10bb, am I'm pushing/calling based on 10bb push/call ranges for that chart?

I've read many times that it's beneficial to stay well rounded in all styles of the game because you can learn from all of them, plus you might find one you end up doing generally better at.

Phil Galfond's favorite game is PLO but he plays in the WSOP still right? Anyways I'm not here to argue, it's just an opinion.

That being said, I like cash games and SNGs (probably SNGs a little more). Is it a valid option to switch to SNGs exclusively and stick with those, or is it harder to build a bankroll with them?

So now you're comparing yourself to Galfond.

If Phil Galfond ever needs to ask questions in the Beginner's forum (hint: he doesn't) I'll tell him the same thing.

analogy (n.) - a correspondence or partial similarity.

I'm not trying to play on my national soccer team, either.

Guess I'll look elsewhere for answers Thought the beginner forum would be more welcoming
