Hello! My name is ignorance_is_bliss, and I am a fish. I am a fish because I have busted my minuscule BR on no less than 3 occasions, chasing straight and flush draws, and bluffing with air. I am a fish because I've seen a villain play 28o and hit a full house whilst I've held pocket K's and flopped a set, and I've said "If he can do it, I can too!" ....And that gambler mindset got me busto... Again.

But enough belly-aching. I do love playing NLHE, it's a game, it's a challenge, it's awesome. I'm a recreational player with goals and a desire to learn and improve my game. I have a question for the 2+2 community, and here's my situation.

I play online exclusively from Wellington, New Zealand. I can only put $10NZ into my BR each week (a promise to myself and my significant other, which I will never break), which amounts to less than two full BI at 4NL, the lowest stakes I can play online NLHE.

I really don't want to put my whole BR on the table, so what should I do?

- At my next session, BI at minimum and play a short stack strategy till I double up or go bust?
- Deposit money into my BRfor 6 weeks to a month, forget about playing and just study in the interim?
- Open up my options and maybe play LHE?
- Something else?

If this sounded like your situation, What did you do, when you were in my shoes?

I'd play full stacked to be honest. There's nothing fundamentally different in terms of variance about whether your BR is there now or is going to be there in a week's time. Definitely study hard though.

What should I have done? I didn't really put him with JJ because he only min-raised PF.

Hello, I play poker for 3,5 or 4 years, but all time I play micro level, I'm trying to learn as much as I can in my free time, and I start to studying in last 3 or 4 month, because I want to past that micro level (with my BR, I already have some basic knowledge but I want to improve myself) ... I read books ( most of them are "old book"- written before 2008, 07) watch all free coaching videos that I can find, and a few days ago I make account on this forum, obviously because this is best poker forum...
I have some questions about poker tracker and others poker programs, I don't use any of that program, and if anyone is interested to answer on my questions I will be more that grateful...
I play on pokerstars for last 4 month, before that I played on poker770 for 1,5 or 2 years ( I wasn't committed so much ), my nickname is alm1ghty11, and if anyone is interested to chat or talk about poker share knowledge send me a message, I love to talk about poker.
Sorry if I made some grammar mistake, english in not my native language.

This seems like a sensible place to ask:

I want to explain why poker is a skill game, using one short and entertaining example. I don't need to show the full depth of it, just an idea of it.

For example, I could explain how you can sometimes get tells of how someone will play from their name - "fluffy kitten" is likely to bluff like crazy. An internet sound-ing name might mean they're relatively sophisticated.

But saying "my hand beats 50% of his river calling range, so I should value bet" is no good because it's too complicated and it's not entertaining.

Just a quick question, regarding getting comp'd a free nights stay......

What would be the number of hours I would have to play at my local casino ( Tunica ) , and playing the $1/$3 NL game .... in order to get comp'd a Free nights stay ?

I am curious about this, since I am wanting to play for 2 days straight and not have to travel back home that evening

Thank you for any insight into the matter

    really dumb one here..

In MTTs, what range are we calling with when we're in the BB and a short stack has moved all in

I assume it's very dependent on ours and villain stack sizes, bubble factors etc. But what is the basic theory on this?

I'm not sure if there is a basic theory but this is my approach based off experience:

Unless the short stack is either desperate or a maniac, they're going to be pushing with a hand that has a good chance of winning whether they connect with the flop or not and that will usually be any ace or pocket pair. A lotta times it will be something like KK or AA which is usually a win win for em because a lotta people will usually call with any playable hand figuring they got em covered and the short stacker usually will end up doubling up at least half the time.

When a short stack moves all in preflop and u have zero reads on em, you generally want to call with any high pocket pair (I personally need at least JJ) or something like AK.

Thanks for your response, but i disagree with you

im positive theres situations where you're calling any 2 in the BB, or top 70% depending on the price

There are charts etc for this stuff. I'm primarily a cash game player, so I won't give what may be incorrect detail to you.

Instead, ask here (tell jdawg91 that I said that he has to help you ).

Can someone explain difference between SIG and MTT? I understand that SIG = single table, MTT = multi table... but what is the difference? You pay buy-in to join each, everything seems the same.

    Thanks!

SNG start when they're full, MTT start at a specific time. Also, SNG tend to be 1 table, MTT can have thousands of players.

Hi guys I have a pretty basic bankroll question.

I play nl2 with 72$ at the moment and I won 13,50bb/100hands so far over 16.000 hands.

Am clearly beating nl2 so I wonder when it is time for me to move up.
What do you think of moving up at 100$ to nl5 and then moving back down to nl2 when I hit 80$?

My Goal in poker is to get asap to a limit like nl50 or nl100 and be at least breakeven. At nl50 1bb/100 would also make me happy.

nl25 with like 3bb/100 also would make me happy .

I have a question please, regarding knowing when making a Call is a +EV call in any given hand,
based on the Pot odds and the Equity of my hand

Do we want the Pot odds to be " Greater " than the equity of are hand, or is it the other way around.... Equity of are hand being a higher percentage then the Pot odds ?

    Thanks for the help

For me it is easier to user % numbers.

When you get a:b pot odds you can transform that into percentages using this formula: b/(a+1)

So when someone gives you 2:1 pot odds you know you need 33% Equity to make the call on the River.

In this case you need to win at least 33% to breakeven.
So your Equity has to be higher than the Equity you need based on Pot odds.

    Did that help?
