Same reason that you can't post nude photos - the site owner prefers the site not to have them.

TBH it does help to preserve some semblance of decorum I think, which isn't a bad thing.

For example i got 5 6 7 x and the board is 5 6 7

If your card(s) are making it less likely for your opponent to have a certain hand your card(s) are called blockers.

Good afternoon gentlemen

I apologise if this is posted in the wrong place,I was wondering are there any success stories that have materialised after years of loosing/playing like a degen? It seems most pros these days deposited 50 bucks ( maybe twice) then smashed through the stakes using 2+2 as a second home. Does anyone know of anyone that has turned it all around after a long period of being a donating fishcake?

Thanks in advance

It's sort of the other way round, but Johnny Moss became a donating fishcake in his later years.

And Vicky Coren isn't a pro but started winning after going for a long time by the motto 'don't disgrace an ace'.

What do you mean by " sort of the other way round"?
I used to be a poker dealer and had the pleasure of dealing to Vicky at the Vic in London, although its a couple of years ago she was definitely considered to be a massively losing cash game player, not very concrete evidence I know but cardroom regs generally know who is the value I guess

I don't think I phrased my question in the right way, obviously all players are losers at the beginning ( if not money, play chips or matchsticks around the family dinning table) my question is more related to attitude, it seems players like Raptor or Durrrr immediately had a winning attitude/mindset, they all seemed to apply themselves from the get go, I'm interested if there are any players who for years treated poker like a bit of fun ( and in the process lost for a long time) and turned it all around? Looking for some inspiration

Most accounts that want access to PMs right away are spammers. Some are scammers. These rules make it a little bit more difficult to create disposable accounts for these purposes (especially spambots).

If you fall into neither of these categories, then likely the reason you want PMs ASAP is to participate in transfers, staking, coaching, prop betting or some other transaction with people you don't know.

By creating this thread you have demonstrated that you are unaware of or ignore the standard practices, conventions and norms of online forums such as reading FAQs, lurking before posting and searching. This implies that you are ill prepared to do the necessary due diligence required to prevent being taken advantage of. Waiting some time before enabling PMs helps to prevent people from jumping right in, taking no precautions and being scammed.

Please reconsider engaging in any such transactions until you are more seasoned, knowledgeable and better able to practice safe Internet. Please carefully read all available FAQs and stickies related to whatever high risk activity you are attempting to engage in before proceeding.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple, but I don't recall who.

There are (at least) two problems with trying to find this info though:

1. Poker players lie a lot, and a lot of now winning players probably wouldn't admit to being totally useless ATMs.

2. There is a very large survivorship bias among those who rapidly move up. If a bunch of new players start out, some of them will go on a massive heater early on, and these guys move up. If they are any good they establish themselves at higher stakes. Many who were equally good if not better had the reverse happen, they lost their first couple of deposits, decided poker was a stupid game, and don't play any more.

Benrun do you play live in Manchester at all? Just out of interest, plus was wondering if you could recommend somewhere good. I've played at the Genting one in town a couple of times.

Out of interest, what's the standard like in Manchester?

Might look at playing a bit live when I move back home.

I live in Manchester (or as close as makes no difference).

G casino on Bury New Rd has the most games spread. If you want something other than NLHE, or bigger than 1/1 or 1/2, then that's the place.

235 has the most tables running, particularly weekends, and they are pretty soft. There are a few regs, but some of them are so terrible its funny. Most tables are 1/1 though, PLO has never ever run when I've been there.

I would have to agree with Alienspace bat! Genting is for the much part a semi-private Chinese game ( although they deny it) most nights. Chinese is spoken in the middle of hands, max pull up is completely disregarded if someone is on tilt and I have witnessed the blinds change on the demand of a few regs. I forget the cardroom supervisors name, but I confronted him about this and he simply said " it's their game".
G Casino is dying a slow but sure death, apart from he occasional Friday night 5-5 game your best option is 235! Weekends it's a gold mine! And there's plenty of attractive passers by I haven't been myself but I have been hearing good things about G casino didsbury!

Why such a small flop bet, especially since you're short stacked?

KK vs AA preflop

AK, flop comes AK4, villain has 44

etc
