What do you think about this hand? Yes I know I limped on the button, but I was getting 3.5:1 on my money and I didn't want to raise preflop with a weak ace. I've read Harrington volume one and he advocates limping in certain situations like this. As you can see I've flopped top pair and with that texture the only thing I'm worried about is an ace with a better kicker than me. I've played against this player for about 45 mins now and he seems loose and aggressive. With a pot sized bet and in the CO I'm thinking he is trying to represent an ace, so I reraised him to find out. When the turn comes and he checks I don't put him on trips as I think he would fold 8's to a reraise and an over card on the flop, but he is aggressive so who knows. On the river I'm thinking he might have had an up and down straight draw playing 910s and just made it with the jack. I don't even consider that he was on a flush draw after he called my flop bet. When he shoves with a pot sized bet I feel like he is trying to buy the pot with his aggressive image and I still think my aces are good. I guess I should have given him credit for a straight but when he shows down I can't believe it. Thoughts?

OK I'm a us player
i want to play online
is their a site a can play on the doesn't keep track of how i play.
ok i'm having trouble putting to words
example , say i fold after the flop 40 percent of the time to a pot size bet. or that i only see a showdown 10 percent of the time. i play pretty tight and I'm worried that they will lookup my stats and use that to beat me.
yes I'm not very good at poker.
but i feel that i need to play for cash to get better.
play money online doesn't get the butterflies in the stomach going so to speak.
can't play live all the time because I'm a losing player.
so i'm asking if i can play at site that doesn't allow pokertracker type software during play.

what site do you play at that allows you to 24 table poker?

Also, how much money would you say you've lost due to accidental clicking?

what I mean is, how much have you lost when trying to click raise/fold and another table pops up and you call an all in on accident? (as you can tell i've done this before lol)

Hi there, I'm interested in setting up a thread on a particular subject, with an faq and whatever bells and whistles I can put on it. Where is the full set of instructions for controls and posting features? I'm sure I stumbled across it a while back, but all I can find now is the basic posting instructions.

Can I use the expand function seen on the beginners questions thread, or if not, can I set up a file somewhere that I can link to?

Thanks

David Z

You don't have to be a great player to be a great coach. Some of the best players in the world would be the worst coaches. Few are good at both, but you did a great job of breaking it down for those who didn't know.

I'm curious, a year and a half after this post, what your experiences are now.

Which is the correct forum for posting 2-4 or 4-8 limit hands LIVE. Is it micro or small stakes? I searched and found conflicting answers, and those were mostly about NL, not limit.

*EDIT: Nevermind. I see lots of 3/6 live in the small stakes, so thats the place for me Sorry for lowering the S/N

Thanks for sharing and helping us out. I haven't finished the whole thread yet, so I apologize if this has already been addressed:

What's your opinion on 6max vs FR. I've read other threads about it but I was interested in your thoughts. I know you play 6max and at 400nl + that's where most of the action is, but do you think it's essential that I move into shorthanded games now so that I'll be ready when I eventually move up (granted that's a ways off, I'm still at 25nl). Aside from that aspect, do you think I'm likely to increase my hourly in the near short run if I make the switch?

What was the biggest help in your game, to get you where your at now?

was it just practice?

thank you

I am going to make some statements and ask some questions. I would appreciate it if you could tell me if something is wrong with my statement and answer my question.

My poker maths is pretty basic. I have a simple question that's stumping me. Let's say the blinds are 5.10 cent.

I am bb and co or button raises to 30 and I re-raise to 90. I make a profit here if villain fold more than 50% of time. This of course is assuming that I am always bluffing, and need a fold. This is impossible but lets pretend I am.

This is the part that stumps me. Villain calls and pot is 1.65. I always make a continuation bet of 1.20 no matter what the board. Villain can flat call re-raise with either a middle pocket pair or ak aq.

How often does my 1.20 bet need to get a fold to turn a profit? Lets pretend this is my only way of winning the hand.
Do I forget completely about my previous pre-flop investment when counting the pot?
I know experienced poker players hate these question because of all the other factors that could affect a hand.
However, I think with the emergence of rush poker this may be a valid question. Position raising and blind re-raising is rampant in the games I've played.

Hello WCGRider!

I've read the whole thread and your series of "why you suck at uNL". So, condensing all of your advice, I've got the following key points based on each of your threads:

1) Do not limp: raise or fold. Only exception is with PP or (depending on circumstances) SCs.

2) Manage your bankroll. Have at least 20 buy-ins for the table you're sitting at. If below ~15 BIs move down, if above 30 move up (obv differs for each player and where they feel they're at).

3) Table selection is crucial. Look at the number of callers pre-flop, look for fish. Observe before sitting down.

4) Be honest with yourself. Accept you suck and analyse where the biggest holes in your game are.

5) C-bets are good if: flop has an ace, flop has other high card, little chance of straight or flush, opponent checks, opponent rarely calls c-bet, hand is unlikely to win showdown [from most important to least].

Bad if: possible straight/flush, possible trips, opponent likely to call, OOP, hand could win showdown.

Only double-barrel if turn changes board dynamics.

6) Put opponents on a range - consider what possible hands they have with regards to their style.

Players are less likely to bluff turn/river at low stakes.

Consider range they'll put you on. Try and vary your play.

Think logically about their play each street and what this says about their possible hand.

Are there any other fundamentals I'm missing? Anything above which I've misinterpreted/got plain wrong?

Lastly, just want to give you a massive thanks for all the time you've spent giving advice; I really think I've learned a lot from what you've said. Also, I love your writing style it's very....colourful and made me laugh out loud a few times. Good luck with everything in the future. I wish you every success.

Is there a rule of thumb as to how much to bring to a table based on the blind sizes.

Thank you

Hi,

First of all sorry if this question don't belong to this section.

I'd like to know if online poker sites like pokerstars, full tilt, partypoker account can be shared and used in 2 different county?

For example a friend playing in UK and another playing in Malaysia using the same account but at different time.

You will be red flagged for sure.
One person to a account and it will be easy to see that this is not
the case for you.

Why not just open seperate accounts?
You wouldnt be able to withdraw 2 both locations any ways.

Im still learning about this site and am wondering which thread is best for advice on breakdown of hands ?

Hope im not too late into this thread. Much appreciate what you are doing Doug.

Just curious on how much do you put in work off the table HEM/PT3 reviewing your plays, 2+2 strategy forums etc, now that you are playing comfortably at one level?

Also how do you motivate yourself to grind again after a bad session/week/month?

Is there a 'new to NL cash games starter pack' type thing? Like, buy this book, get this software, learn these theories etc? Thanks.

Hi there,

I tried posting this question in a 200NL SH forum and got blasted. Some were helpful, but still have not received the answer I'm looking for since most can't get passed the fact that question the holy grail of playing AK....

Here is the situation a play performed by a very successful player at these limits. I'll call him the Hero and he has AK. I got this hand off Table Ratings as I'm new to short hand and looking on how to play optimally while playing the micros. I am bankrolled to play NL200 and beat Rush NL200 full ring.

All the following is pre-flop.

Hero is OP and makes his standard raise of $6

Villan is on the button and makes a re-raise of $21

Both Blinds fold

Pot is now $30

Note: I would normally call here and see a flop or I may have limped called and see the flop. Keep in mind that I only played Rush at these limits, and it was FR.

It is my opinion that the Villan is portraying a hand worth raising. He could be making a move, but I would think that he does not have enough fold equity for the Hero to push all in here. They both have $179 behind them and I calculated that there would have to be at least $232 of implied odds just to break even. In other words, Villan would have to fold 67% of the time in order for an all-in push to be profitable. Is this a reasonable assumption to make here is this spot? Would a generic Villan fold that often here?

Hero didn't push, rather he doubled his raise. He made it $42. Now here is my delima....

1. A min raise here is in my opinion making the fold equity even worse.
2. The player is likely to push here. If he pushes the Hero now has the pot odds to call him.

My question is this.... Would this play not be an overall loosing play? I agree that the money was there for last call, but it was not there before the min raise. Pot odds were artificially created by the Hero by putting in his own money when he min raised....

Thanks in Advance
